Geocgi is looking for a Geospatial Data Scientist to lead data munging, data processing, and data analysis for the GeoCenter at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This position is based on-site in Washington D.C. at the headquarters of USAID, which serves as the US government lead for international development and humanitarian assistance worldwide. The USAID GeoCenter is a team of geographers and data analysts who apply geospatial technology, data analytics, and visualization techniques to improve the strategic planning, design, monitoring, and evaluation of Agency programs. In addition to serving the analytical needs of the Agency, the GeoCenter also collaborates with interagency, international development organizations, and university partners in the geospatial community.ResponsibilitiesThe Geospatial Data Scientis is responsible for working with subject matter experts within the Agency to address priority development challenges, enhance capacity to integrate geospatial data and analysis into routine decision making, and clearly communicate their findings and recommendations. The incumbent will perform data integration, data visualization, data mining, and analysis to derive results, and will communicate results to non-technical staff. Specific responsibilities include:● Apply data science to support international decision-making: acquire, process, manage, analyze, archive, and communicate data from a range of sources.● Collaborate closely with a team of interdisciplinary experts within the GeoCenter.● Design, develop and deliver data visualization products (including maps) to support USAID operations at all stages of the program cycle: strategic planning, program design, monitoring, and evaluation of programs.● Effectively communicate analytical findings, both orally and in writing, to peers and senior leaders, through briefings, presentations, and memos.  ● Provide training and capacity building services to non-technical audiences on accessing, analyzing, and visualizing data.● Self-initiate and manage multiple analytical projects in a time-sensitive environment.● Follow advancements in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for integrating geospatial technology in international development. Skills and CapabilitiesThe Geospatial Data Scientist must demonstrate expertise in the following areas:● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team and across diverse international cultures.● Applying data science analytical techniques to problems and datasets spanning diverse sectors as agriculture, democracy & governance, economic growth, education, environment, and health.● Quantitative background and experience in data collection, cleaning, processing, and applied analysis and visualization using statistical software or programming languages (Python, R, Stata, SAS, SPSS, MATLAB, Tableau, and/or PowerBI).● Conducting advanced regression and non-linear data analysis.● Experience manipulating incomplete or small datasets.● Writing organized, clear, and well-documented computer code to ensure reproducible and scalable analytical routines.● Producing compelling data visualization products with statistical software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.● Translating statistical, regression, and visualization results into briefing documents or presentations for senior leadership. ● Leading and facilitating projects through concept, iterative design development, and delivery.As an employee of geocgi, the Geospatial Data Scientist will have access to a generous benefits package, in addition to a corporate culture and community of GIS geeks.
