Job Summary

Huawei is looking for a (Senior) Research Scientist to join our London Research Centre’s Computer Vision team. In particular, we seek someone with experience in (Visual) Large Language Models and/or multi-modality learning to join us. The research scientist will conduct both academic and applied research while advancing the state-of-the-art in machine learning. They will collaboratively develop advanced products and services with other groups in the company and help land their research within company products.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leading and participating in cutting-edge research projects, focusing on multi-modality learning and visual large language models.
• Being involved in the entire process, from the conceptualization of the research project, to writing testable and reusable code to train neural networks. Very often, we open-source our code.
• Collaborating with product teams to use your solution in the latest version of Huawei. We like our research to not only end in a research paper, but also to solve real-world problems and be delpoyed in billions of devices.
• Writing research papers, we like to show the world our latest findings.
• Patent your solution. We like our papers, but we also like our patents.
• Mentoring research interns. You learned from someone during your career, we want our interns to learn from our permanent scientists too.Stay updated on the latest developments and trends in software development, machine learning, and LLMs.

Person Specification:

List details of Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications needed to do the job:

• A Ph.D. degree, or close to completion, in computer vision, machine learning, or a related field.
• Hands on experience with multi-modality learning (e.g., CLIP, BLIP).
• Experience with (visual) large language models.
• Strong research track record. It is mandatory to have at least one first-author paper in a top-tier venue (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, tPAMI, IJCV, JMLR, TMLR).
• Strong coding skills: Ability to quickly prototype in PyTorch (it is okay if you only have Tensorflow or JAX experience).
• Be a team player. While our researchers lead projects, we also like them to collaborate with each other.
• Be flexible. It is a fast world, and the important topics of research change all the time.
• Be updated with state-of-the-art, and like reading lots of papers.
• Have good written and oral communication skills.
