RAND’s Technology and Security Policy Center (TASP) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager. This role will support The AI Capabilities Evaluation (ACE) team at RAND analyzing the capabilities of frontier AI systems in diverse fields. Researchers from nonpartisan, nonprofit RAND and METR, an AI evaluation research nonprofit, will each contribute to the project, building on their collective expertise in misuse risk and AI system autonomy, respectively. The project will focus on developing cutting-edge science, methodology, and tools to evaluate how risks from AI systems might manifest, and conducting predeployment evaluations of each new generation of frontier AI systems. The TASP center is at the forefront of analyzing the impact of high-consequence, dual-use technologies—such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology—on global competition and security. TASP is dedicated to developing policy and technological solutions to enhance the competitiveness and security of the United States, its allies and partners, and the world.
Responsibilities Include
Strategic Operations Management: Lead the operational planning and execution of the ACE project. Manage budgets and timelines to ensure the project is on track.
Recruiting and Staffing: Coordinate with TASP directors, project leaders and GRT to help staff and budget ACE project.
Communications and Publications: Work with the ACE project leaders to complete and track products and publications through the QA and publications process.
Event and Workshop Management: Develop and execute ACE project events, working closely with RAND facilities and support personnel.
Initiate and track subcontracts, independent service agreements, supplier service agreements, and purchase orders.

Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement strategic operational improvements.

Education
Minimum: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
Experience
8 years minimum, 10 years preferred.
Security Clearance
US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance. Ability to obtain clearance is not required but preferred.
Location
Washington DC (preferred), Pittsburgh, PA; Santa Monica, CA, or Boston, MA. While a hybrid/flex work arrangement is preferred, fully remote work may be considered within the United States.
Salary range: $100,100 - $179,700
Project Manager III $100,100-$152,400
Project Manager IV $117,700-$179,700

The salary range includes base pay plus RAND’s sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
