The Fulfillment tech family is one of the pillars enabling Grab to out-serve our customers and partners in different businesses and marketplaces across Southeast Asia. We are working on high throughput, real-time distributed systems that use sophisticated machine learning techniques to solve hundreds of millions of requests per day. We are a distributed team in 4 locations: Singapore, Beijing, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Our communication is in English, both in spoken and written form.

The prestigious Machine Learning Engineer position is a very challenging but incredibly rewarding role where every code that you string, every model you build, push out and implement instantly impacts millions of people across Southeast Asia. As such, we are seeking passionate & talented Senior ML Engineers with experience in big data processing, data analytics, and machine learning to join our team where you will not only get to work on our incredibly massive production scale, you will also be exposed to elegant products running on world-class technologies that bring our unique On-Demand Transport and Delivery experience to millions of people, anytime and anywhere. The Critical Tasks You will Perform:
- Understand business problems and convert them to ML problem space. Work with the business teams to understand workflows and requirements, and analyze data to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies that can inform automation projects and provide insights to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Data Science and Software Engineering teams to identify areas of automation and optimization within our systems, with a focus on operational efficiency and reducing manual interventions.
- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions that improve the efficiency of various processes, utilizing your expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and engineering knowledge.
- Drive automation projects aimed at complex system fine-tuning with real market change, leveraging data-driven techniques to deliver business impact in the automated system.
- Leverage and innovate machine learning techniques to optimize automation resilience and improve system performance.
- Work closely with stakeholders to define project goals, deliverables, and timelines, ensuring that the automation projects align with the overall business objectives.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in machine learning, optimization techniques, data analysis, and generative AI, and bring new ideas and innovations to the team.
Qualifications
What Essential Skills You will Need:
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Math, EE, or a similar field
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals in data structures and algorithms
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering or data science, and experience in writing production code. Recent PhD graduates with little industry experience are also welcome.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python and at least one backend language like Go, Scala, Java, C++, or others
- Proficiency in data processing frameworks such as Spark or Flink
- Proficiency in ML and DL frameworks such as XGBoost or Pytorch
- Experience in ETL pipelines for data processing, model training and serving.
- Understanding of optimization concepts and techniques, with experience in applying optimization methods to improve system performance and efficiency.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to think analytically, self-motivated, curious, team player, and problem solver
- Detail-oriented and focused in a dynamic and fast-paced working environment
The Nice-to-Haves:
- Master or PhD in Computer Science or similar fields
- Academic research experience and papers in Artificial Intelligence
- Experience in anomaly detection or forecasting
- Good understanding of large-scale systems and DevOps best practices such as CI/CD
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional or cross-cultural team environment
