Position: Senior Data Scientist

Job Location: 640 W. California Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086

Duties: Stay up to date on the latest machine learning and deep learning algorithms that power personalization on Walmart’s site and other tenant sites, using statistics, probability, and optimization methods. Stay proficient in big data technologies such as Hive and Map-Reduce framework. Build algorithms to handle massive amounts of data generated on the web and make data-driven inferences at scale. Stay up to date on the latest data science and software engineering technologies used within the personalization team, such as Java, Hive, Map-Reduce framework, Python, Bash scripting, and machine learning packages such as Scikit-Learn and Numpy. Work with personalization data engineering, modeling, and web services teams to deliver key projects. Develop efficient and effective code. Develop efficient and scalable data processing systems. Work with agile scrum teams within the personalization group and adhere to best practices for software development, such as coding style and code reviews from peers. Participate in designing different components in personalization backend systems, from data collection to enabling machines to make data-driven decisions at scale, thus building highly scalable and relevant solutions to drive key business projects. Perform research and innovate using new machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to achieve business goals. Clearly articulate work and document, track, and present accomplished tasks through tools such as Jira, Github, and Confluence. Analyze customer and catalog data to build state-of-the-art personalized item recommendation models.

Minimum education and experience required: Master’s degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering (any), or related field and 1 year of experience in an analytics related field; OR Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering (any), or related field and 3 years of experience in an analytics related field.

Skills required: Experience with object-oriented programming. Experience with Machine Learning and deep learning principles and algorithms: classification clustering and neural networks. Experience with recommender systems techniques: Collaborative Content-Based Filtering and Factorization Machines. Experience creating static and interactive visualizations using Python and R packages including ggplot2, Matplotlib, Seaborn, and Plotly for exploratory data analysis. Experience implementing Machine Learning and Data Science projects using software tools including Scikit-learn, Numpy, Pandas, and PySpark. Experience working with relational databases using query language SQL. Experience with big data technologies: Spark, Hadoop, and Map-Reduce Framework. Experience with task tracking using Jira, Github, and Confluence. Experience with statistics and probability using Hypothesis Testing, Time-Series analysis, and Markov chains. Experience with data structures including Queues, LinkedList, Trees, and graph algorithms. Experience with cloud-based software including AWS and GCP and workflow management software Airflow. Employer will accept any amount of graduate coursework, graduate research experience or professional experience with the required skills.

Salary Range: $138,911/year to $234,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.  Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
