Job Description

Syngenta Seeds Research is seeking an exceptional Genomics Data Scientist to drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge knowledge graphs and graph-based machine learning models focused on association analysis (e.g. GWAS/QTL). In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the creation of a sophisticated data ecosystem that seamlessly integrates plant genomics data, expression analysis, and phenotype data, propelling our breeding and trait research efforts to new heights.

You will collaborate closely with scientists, bioinformaticians, and software engineers to translate scientific needs into data-driven strategies. Your expertise in knowledge graphs and graph-based machine learning will be instrumental in developing innovative digital tools and platforms that meet the highest scientific standards and facilitate data-driven decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy and execution for the development of knowledge graphs and graph-based machine learning models tailored to the specific needs of both breeding and trait research, ensuring scientific accuracy, technical feasibility, and efficient data management.
  • Champion the integration of advanced technologies, including knowledge graphs, graph neural networks, and graph-based machine learning techniques, to innovate and enhance the R&D pipeline.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of knowledge graph databases, graph-based models, and decision-making tools that optimize research processes and data interpretation.
  • Collaborate closely with research and development teams to translate scientific requirements into actionable digital strategies and advanced data-driven solutions.
  • Report on the performance and impact of digital tools and models, and adapadapt development plans to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with R&D goals.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (required) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science with a specialization in bioinformatics, Genomics, Data Science with a biology focus, or a related scientific field.
  • Experience in custom application development within a biological research context, with a strong emphasis on knowledge graphs and graph-based machine learning techniques.
  • Proven expertise in creating and managing complex digital solutions that streamline research processes and enhance decision-making, with a focus on knowledge graph databases and graph neural networks.
  • Deep understanding of the latest technologies and methodologies in data science, machine learning, and graph-based techniques as applied to bioinformatics and genomics.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to transform complex biological data into insightful, actionable information using knowledge graphs and graph-based machine learning models.
  • Innovative problem-solving abilities, with a focus on creating solutions that address complex research challenges using cutting-edge graph-based techniques.
  • Excellent communication capabilities, adept at simplifying and articulating complex bioinformatics, knowledge graph, and graph machine learning concepts to various audiences.
