We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic AI Governance Lead to work within our Data Governance team, operating across the Group.

This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative team with a wide range of experience and backgrounds. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are customerfocused and who have strong general knowledge of pension and insurance products and specialism or experience in an AI Governance, or similar/related role, for example in Data Governance, Risk, Compliance or Data Protection.

The AI Governance Lead plays a key role within the Data Governance team, ensuring the safe, ethical, and responsible use of AI within the organisation. This role is pivotal in advancing AI maturity across the Group by implementing governance frameworks, operating models, and industry best practices. You will be instrumental in shaping AI Governance strategy, ensuring compliance with regulations, and leading the development and implementation of AI risk management initiatives.

As a subject matter expert, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders and peers to drive the responsible adoption of AI technologies. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in AI Governance, with a deep understanding of regulatory environments, and excellent communication and leadership skills.

About the role

  • Lead the development and implementation of a Group-wide AI Governance Framework for Royal London, including standards, processes and controls, that support in the delivery of safe, ethical and well governed AI solutions.
  • Act as the Product Owner for AI Governance services working across the Group to ensure AI implementations are fit for purpose and aligned with our AI principles.
  • Take a hands-on role in the day-to-day management of the AI inventory, ensuring it is updated and maintained with accurate details of AI use cases.
  • Oversee and manage AI-related procurement questionnaires, working with supplier managers to ensure they align with AI governance standards.
  • Implement impact assessments to evaluate ethical implications and integrate assessments within project development processes to ensure responsible implementation of AI.
  • Develop and deliver training focused on our AI principles across the Group to raise awareness and embed these practices across the organisation.
  • Actively engage with industry groups, regulatory bodies and peers to learn from best practice across the industry and share insights.
  • Drive the adoption of AI best practices and self-service AI governance across the Group.

About you

  • Deep understanding of emergent ethical risks and how to mitigate through tooling, frameworks, and standards, ideally at a Group level.
  • Strong understand of regulatory environments, including the EU AI Act and similar legislation.
  • Provide experience in developing and implementing AI risk management controls and practices and embedding them into existing risk management frameworks.
  • Excellent ability to design and deliver AI Governance capabilities, including risk and control frameworks.
  • Strong communication, storytelling, and translation skills, with the ability to simplify complex technology challenges.
  • Leadership experience, including managing or coaching others at a senior level.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, especially when working with cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive approach to identifying risks, developing strategies, and driving the AI Governance agenda
