As the Senior Manager of Data & AI Governance, you will play a critical role in shaping our data and AI strategies. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive data governance frameworks that ensure data integrity, security, compliance, and ethical use across the organization. You will collaborate with business leaders to establish policies and standards for data management and AI practices, translating regulatory requirements and strategic objectives into actionable governance initiatives. Additionally, you will oversee the integration of governance tools like Atlan for data cataloging and metadata management, and Immuta for data security and access control, ensuring effective data stewardship and compliance with global regulations.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Strategic Framework Development: Design and implement comprehensive data governance and AI governance frameworks that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Policy Enforcement: Establish and enforce policies for data quality, metadata management, data lifecycle, and data privacy.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with global data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry-specific regulations.
  • Data Stewardship: Lead initiatives to promote data stewardship, fostering a culture of data responsibility and accountability.
  • Technology Integration: Oversee ( in partnership with Data engineering leadership ) the effective use of Atlan for data cataloging and metadata management, and Immuta for data security and access control.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with IT, legal, compliance, data engineering, and data science teams to ensure cohesive data governance practices.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential data risks and develop mitigation strategies, including regular audits and assessments.
  • Performance Metrics: Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to data governance and AI ethics.
  • Training and Development: Create and deliver training programs to educate staff on data governance policies and best practices.
  • Innovation and Best Practices: Stay current with industry trends to continuously improve governance frameworks and practices.
  • Support strategic projects to provide permissible and timely access to data and content using AI automation
  • Ethical AI Oversight Develop and enforce AI governance policies that ensure ethical use of AI and machine learning technologies across the organization. Establish frameworks to identify, monitor, and mitigate biases in AI models and algorithms.
  • Data quality management implement robust data quality standards and processes to ensure the integrity and reliability of data.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other quantitative disciplines with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of managerial experience

OR

  • Advanced degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other quantitative disciplines with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have:

  • Deep understanding of data governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Atlan (or similar tool) for data cataloging and Immuta for data security.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services and Databricks platform.
  • Minimum seven years of experience dedicated to data quality initiatives.
  • Hands on experience with data profiling, cleansing, and improving data accuracy and reliability.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and enforcing ethical AI guidelines and framework within an organization.
  • Experience conducting ethical risk assessment for AI projects to ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulations.
  • Familiarity with ethical AI principles such as transparency, fairness, accountability, and explainability.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Expertise in global data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and compliance strategies.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with experience presenting to executive leadership.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications CDMP or CIMP are highly desirable.
  • Deep expertise in the implementation of data strategy, governance frameworks, operating models, and key data management processes
  • Strong knowledge and experience working in a sophisticated multi-ERP system environment that includes SAP and Salesforce.
  • Demonstrates a proven record of success in enabling technologies and the impact on Data Analytics and Reporting.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$150,400.00 - $225,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
