About the Role

The Senior AI Governance Counsel or Senior Manager of AI Governance is an integral part of Latham’s Information Governance team and will be responsible for building and maintaining the firm’s AI governance framework, ensuring compliance with evolving legal and ethical standards, including AI safety and the responsible use of AI, while reviewing and responding to AI-related provisions in engagement terms and outside counsel guidelines from clients.This role will be located in our New York office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing comprehensive AI governance strategies that align with client requirements, organizational goals, and ethical standards
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive AI governance framework that aligns with industry best practices and regulatory requirements
  • Developing and maintaining policies, guidelines, and documentation for the responsible development and deployment of AI tools, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate AI governance into existing compliance and risk management processes and to ensure AI practices comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains 

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Display highly developed and professional interpersonal skills; including the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding and experience with emerging technologies, including generative artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and their practical applications in a legal or corporate environment
  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of relevant AI and privacy legislation, including the EU AI Act and GDPR

And have:

  • A law degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to at least one U.S. State Bar
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional services or industry experience
