The opportunity

Join our team as a Senior Governance Specialist where you’ll play a pivotal role in elevating data governance maturity and fostering a culture of data integrity across QBE. This role is ideal for a governance expert with a strong background in regulatory compliance, policy formulation, and governance process design, ready to engage with business leaders, drive policy adoption, develop maturity and ensure consistent application of standards in data and AI.

Your new role:

In this role you will work closely with the Data Governance manager and other key stakeholders including data stewards, risk managers, senior management and business units to drive the development and adoption of policy and governance processes, policy formation, awareness and education and driving cultural change and quantifying effectiveness.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

  • Work with the Data and AI Governance Manager to implement processes and tools to improve maturity in data management and responsible use of AI across the organization.
  • Play a key role in embedding clear guidelines, rules, and standards for data and AI usage.
  • Partner with internal customers to identify business objectives and propose initiatives to improve business performance.
  • Facilitate and support business data stewards in undertaking data management processes.
  • Provide insight on the impact of regulatory and operational change on Governance requirements.
  • Drive cultural change into all parts of the organisation.
  • Keeps abreast of developments, trends and best practices in data and AI governance and management.

Your story so far

To succeed, you’ll need a strong grasp of the value, importance and use of data in financial services, as well as distribution of accountability through an organisation, governance processes, associated registrar and secretariat functions, establishing metrics and driving continuous improvement.

Required skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of data governance principles and practices, including policy development, lifecycle management, stewardship, and data roles and responsibilities.
  • Critical thinking to coach others in making data driven decisions, backed with strong problem-solving skills to address data-related issues and challenges.
  • Good verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with senior management, data stewards and other teams on data principles and driving cultural change.
  • Proficient in preparing and conducting training sessions across the breadth of levels / roles within an organization.
  • Strong business acumen to understand QBE’s businesses and how data governance aligns and is used to support the same.
  • Familiarity with potential applications, methods and risks associated with analytic models, machine learning and artificial intelligence, including generative AI.
  • Experience in the insurance industry will be a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving business needs and to keep abreast with changing principles and industry regulations.
  • Collaborating with others to establish and embed policies and promote cultural change.
