The Position

The Position

At Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), we transform cutting-edge science into life-changing therapies for patients. Genomic AI holds the promise of revolutionizing precision oncology by accurately decoding the transcriptional and mutational profiles of cancer patients. This enables critical applications such as treatment outcome prediction, personalized therapy, clinical trial optimization, and resistance mechanism discovery.

We are developing novel, interpretable AI models and transfer learning approaches leveraging Roche’s vast molecular and clinical datasets. This internship in our Data & Analytics department offers the chance to work within an interdisciplinary team at the forefront of computational biology and AI innovation.

Your mission:

  • Analyze and integrate multi-omic data from large clinical cohorts, including proprietary clinico-genomic datasets and public repositories.

  • Design, train, and fine-tune AI foundation models (e.g., transformers) for cancer genomics.

  • Benchmark novel approaches against traditional methods (e.g., gene signature analysis) to drive innovation.

  • Contribute to real-world therapeutic research with potential for publication.

Impact and main responsibilities:

As an intern, you’ll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of computational biologists, AI experts, and biomarker scientists, receiving mentorship while driving independent, creative solutions. Your core responsibilities will span data curation, integration, model development, and rigorous results analysis. Your contributions will directly support Roche’s research initiatives with real-world impact—potentially leading to conference or journal publications.

Your Profile:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's/Master’s/PhD program (or recently graduated) in computational biology, computer science, statistics, or related field.

  • Strong Python skills and experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)

  • Background in AI/ML (deep learning, transformers) and/or computational biology (genomics, transcriptomics, single-cell technologies).

  • Research-driven mindset—prior publications in AI/ML or computational biology are a plus.

  • Independent, analytical, and collaborative, with a passion for translating data into patient impact.

  • Proficient in English (written and verbal)

Start: June 2025 or upon availability for a period of 6 months. Please indicate your ideal starting date on your application.

Your application:

Please upload your CV, with at least two references, and a cover letter. Both documents are mandatory. Optionally, you can include in your CV links to relevant software repositories (e.g., GitHub, GitLab) showcasing your work.

Due to regulations, Non-EU/non-EFTA citizens are required to submit a certificate of enrollment along with an official letter from their university confirming that the internship is a mandatory component of their studies. The letter also must specify the duration of the required internship.

We look forward to your application!
