We are excited to offer a data science internship this summer, providing you with first-hand experience of the diverse work we do across sport. This is a great opportunity to apply your data science skills in an industry setting while collaborating with a wider team of data scientists.

We are looking for an intern to join us for six weeks, starting on July 14th. This is a full-time, paid position based in our London office

Twenty First Group is a global sports intelligence agency, dedicated to getting our clients ahead—and keeping them ahead. Our work includes helping optimise schedules for football leagues, identifying the best combination of players for a team’s recruitment, developing new IP such as player price predictions, and working with cutting edge technologies in TFG Labs.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Use your knowledge of sport and your analytical expertise to produce actionable insights for our clients;
  • Produce reports and data visualisations to communicate your findings;
  • Support others in the Data Science team with the development of new statistical models and tools to produce new metrics and look at new sports;
  • Tidy and reshape new external data sources.

Example projects you could be working on 

  • Supporting football clubs on player or managerial recruitment decisions;
  • Developing new data-driven insights to engage fans;
  • Expanding our analytics further into women’s sport.

Desired skills and experience

Data science skills

  • Some experience with programming in R or Python—coursework, personal projects, or previous internships are all valuable. Familiarity with core libraries such as tidyverse, pandas, ggplot2, or matplotlib is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of statistical concepts and modeling techniques, such as probability distributions and linear/logistic regression, with a willingness to learn and apply them in practice.
  • Ability to use data visualisation tools to present insights clearly and effectively. Experience with creating charts is beneficial but not required.

Communication and collaboration skills

  • Good communication skills & the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Sports domain knowledge

    • Good knowledge and interest in sports, particularly football and golf.
