The role

We are currently seeking a dynamic and driven individual to join our team as an AI developer (process innovation). In this role, you will have the chance to work closely with experienced professionals, gaining valuable insights into the development of AI applications used in naval ship design and production. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical skills in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key accountabilities

As an intern or graduate student at Damen Naval, you will delve into the realm of AI, focusing on crafting (software) solutions to enhance ship design processes. Depending on your assignment, you will have the opportunity to select or develop the necessary analysis methods and engineering tools to meet your research goals.
From day one, you will be tasked with planning and executing your research project. Your responsibilities encompass conducting detailed and thorough analyses of your research problem. Furthermore, you will be expected to effectively communicate your findings and conclusions to other departments within the organization.

Skills & experience

The perfect candidate for an internship or graduation project related to AI development (process innovation) has the following characteristics:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Interested in ships and shipbuilding or engineering in general.
  • Independent, curious, analytical, and proactive.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
  • Proficiency in AI/ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Taking responsibility for your own planning and project management.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.
