Summary of Position:

The Automation Application Engineer will have expertise in machine vision and experience in AWS Machine Learning or similar machine learning environments. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation systems, with a focus on machine vision technologies such as Keyence, Cognex, and Matrox. The Automation Applications Engineer will collaborate directly with clients to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of automated solutions. The Automation Technician will provide support to the Automation Engineering team.

Essential Functions:

    Installation and Configuration:

o    Install and configure automation systems, with an emphasis on machine vision technologies             (Keyence, Cognex, Zebra) and integration with AWS Machine Learning or similar platforms.

o    Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure proper setup and alignment with project specifications

    Machine Vision and Machine Learning Expertise:

o    Leverage in-depth knowledge of machine vision systems to enhance automation capabilities

o    Implement and optimize machine vision algorithms for quality inspection and process control

o    Apply experience in AWS Machine Learning or similar environments to enhance automation intelligence

    Maintenance and Repair:

o    Conduct regular maintenance checks on automation equipment, including machine vision and machine learning components, to ensure functionality and identify potential issues

o    Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose problems, and perform necessary repairs

    Testing and Quality Assurance:

o    Perform thorough testing of automation systems, focusing on machine vision accuracy, machine learning model performance, and overall system efficiency

o    Implement quality assurance measures to guarantee reliable and efficient system performance

    Client Interaction:

o    Interact with clients to understand their automation, machine vision, and machine learning requirements and provide technical support

    Documentation:

o    Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of automation installations, configurations, machine vision settings, and machine learning models

o    Create detailed reports on troubleshooting procedures and resolutions

    Safety Compliance:

o    Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during installation, maintenance, and repair activities

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee in this position frequently communicates with other co-workers/clients who have inquiries about the various projects and other needs.  Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.  The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.  The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.  Constantly operate a computer and office machinery such as a calculator, keyboard, copy machine and printer.  Frequently moves boxes with equipment weighing up to 25lbs across the building and/or to other offsite buildings for various project needs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree    
  • 1-3 years of experience

Qualifications:

    Experience with Python in a Linux Environment

    Industrial Machine Vision or Computer Vision experience (Cognex, Keyence, Matrox/Zebra, MVTec)

    Machine vision specifying and programming

    Competency in 3D modeling-CAD using SolidWorks design software

    Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (AWS)

    Understanding of data structures, data modelling and software architecture

    Proficiency in PLCs and HMIs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) 

    Write PLC to device software interface including implementation documentation and validation plan

    Skilled in commissioning intelligent devices on fieldbus networks (Ethernet I/P, ProfiNet, etc.) with exceptional troubleshooting skills

    Robot programming (UR, Fanuc) 

    Strong communication skills both written and verbal

    Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills

    Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed

    Able to communicate engineering concepts and ideas clearly (to builders, customers, and others)

    Passion for Robotics, Vision, and AI
