Join us as a

Working Student / Master Thesis / Internship student in Privacy-Preserving Large Language Models (m/f/d)

Large Language Models (LLMs), e.g., Chat-GPT, are becoming ubiquitous and part of many applications in different industries, e.g., healthcare, finance, law, etc. To build such domain-specific LLMs, usually pre-trained models are finetuned on domain-specific datasets that might include private and sensitive information. Unfortunately, LLMs were found to memorize large parts of their training data and were empirically shown to be vulnerable to several types of attacks. We aim to protect user data at training and inference time and mitigate the risks of privacy leakage by developing novel privacy-enhancing techniques for LLMs. If you are passionate about machine learning research and would like to contribute to making LLMs more privacy-preserving, join us to explore our diverse and exciting ideas to tackle this problem as a Working Student, Master Thesis Student or Master Intern.

Your mission

  • Review prior work related to the research topic.
  • Develop novel algorithms for privacy-preserving LLMs.
  • Implementation and empirical evaluation of the developed methods on public and/or industrial datasets.
  • Document the findings and results.

Your areas of expertise

  • Study in the field of computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, or related fields.
  • Solid knowledge and practical experience in machine learning and deep learning, including programming skills in Python and at least one deep learning framework, e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow or JAX.
  • Experience with Natural Language Processing tasks in general, and large language models specifically, is a plus.
  • Knowledge about privacy-enhancing techniques in AI, e.g., synthetic data generation, and/or differential privacy, is a plus.
  • Passion for research and developing novel solutions for complex scientific problems relevant for real-world applications.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
