As a Team Leader in Data Sciences aligned to Large Molecule Discovery, you will lead a group of data science professionals who will join you in collaborating with scientists in Research Tech functions to develop and deliver consistent high quality, high impact industry-leading data-sciences solutions ready for industrialization.

In this role you will

  • Drive the design, construction, and deployment of cutting-edge data science solutions for Large Molecule Discovery platforms that play a pivotal role in accelerating the discovery and design of hit, lead and candidate molecules.
  • Harness GSK Tech infrastructure and capabilities to establish a cutting-edge data science capability for Large Molecule Discovery.
  • Lead and build a high-performing team of data scientists focussed on delivery and take charge of skills and career development for both early career and experienced professionals.
  • Foster extensive collaboration with lab scientists to design seamless data capture workflows for Large Molecule Discovery experiments, optimizing for data quality standards to feed into machine learning use cases.
  • Shape the data strategy for Large Molecule Discovery in collaboration with matrix leadership teams. Work in tandem with partner data science teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business context, systems, environment and aligning with the overarching strategy for Research Tech.

Qualifications & Skills: 

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: 

  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience in the field of medicine discovery, with a significant track record in developing data science and analytics capabilities.
  • Proficiency in coding languages such as SQL, Python, R, Java, and Javascript.
  • Proven experience in constructing data science and analytics solutions on enterprise research data platforms or equivalents.
  • Expertise in data visualization and analytics software, including but not limited to Spotfire, Tableau, and RStudio.
  • Experience in leading others, whether as a direct line manager, through matrix teams, or by mentoring and supervising early talent.
  • Experience with databases, data warehousing, data pipelines, big data solutions, and handling large sequence/structure, assay, or biophysical characterisation datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead across scientific and technical disciplines, delivering impactful solutions which realize long-term business value.
  • Proven learning agility, scientific curiosity and a focus on continuous development and optimisation of business processes. 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills: 

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: 

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in the field of medicine discovery, with a track record in developing data science and analytics capabilities through technical knowledge e.g. of statistical, curve fitting, dimensionality reduction and machine learning methods.
  • Experience with medicine discovery platforms through work on projects, with knowledge of wet lab experiments covering lead discovery, screening, pharmacology, developability profiling, sequence/structure de-risking, and design. Additionally, experience in application of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods would be value adding.
  • Experience in building data capture, processing, and analytics solutions for medicine discovery experiment workflows and/or automation platforms.
  • Experience in commercial or enterprise-designed primary data repositories for sequence and assay data capture.
  • Experience in cloud data systems or warehousing solutions to build queries and develop productionized data science and analytics solutions for accelerating discovery processes.
  • Experience of partnering with Tech teams and engineers as part of hybrid teams to deliver data solutions for scientific platforms.
