Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Strategic Data Science and Digital Transformation Leader to join our team in Tokyo, Japan. This newly created role is pivotal in modernizing our finance function by leveraging emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and advanced analytics. The ideal candidate will possess a strong quantitative background, extensive hands-on experience with ML/AI, and a strategic mindset to drive innovation and business transformation within the finance function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quantitative Analysis: Apply a data-driven approach to solve complex and exciting business questions, delivering actionable insights through advanced analytics and machine learning.
  • Finance Modernization: Lead the transformation of the finance function by integrating AI, ML, and advanced analytics into financial processes to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
  • Technology Implementation: Actively develop and deploy technologies such as Python, R, SQL, supervised and unsupervised machine learning, and neural networks to solve real-world finance problems.
  • Change Agent: Act as a key change agent within the finance function and the wider organization, promoting the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Hands-On Execution: Directly engage in the coding, modeling, and deployment of ML/AI solutions, ensuring practical and effective implementation.
  • Collaboration: Partner with finance heads and business units to understand business problems and drive data-driven solutions and insights. Foster a collaborative environment to ensure alignment and successful implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Data-Driven Business Value Creation: Utilize a data-driven approach to identify opportunities for business value creation, ensuring investments are aligned with strategic goals and driven by ROI considerations.
  • Investment and ROI-Driven Resourcing: Analyze and optimize resource allocation based on investment returns, driving efficiency and maximizing the impact of financial resources.
  • Stakeholder Interaction: Interact directly with all Tech groups, business owners/users, external product vendors, data vendors, and offshore support suppliers, building and maintaining strong and effective relationships.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure that technical delivery is fully compliant with GSK Japan’s legal, security, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Exposure and Growth: Gain wide exposure within the affiliate, regionally, and globally, positioning yourself as a thought leader in digital finance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Statistics, Math, Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a quantitative finance role, with a strong track record of using advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning, neural networks, and other advanced analytical techniques.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead transformational projects and influence stakeholders across the organization.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills; proficiency in English is preferred but not required.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Hands-On Expertise: Clear experience in running ML/AI codes, developing models, and deploying solutions in a practical setting.
  • Business Acumen: Strong ability to understand business problems and partner with finance and business leaders to develop and implement data-driven solutions.
