Animal Health IT Advanced Analytics team is looking for an experienced computational biologist and data scientist to join our team. Our team enables protein data science, and impacts many AH business areas including: manufacturing, diagnostics, and R&D. This is a multifaceted role that needs a combination of flexible communication, project planning, biology, and data science. In addition to this, your data science work will have the potential of having tangible impact on real world problems.

Primary job responsibilities include

  • Selecting appropriate algorithms, and infrastructure to best to solve business challenges

  • Ability to formulate and lead data science projects, as well as define and execute appropriate benchmarks and in silico experiments

  • Project ownership and quality assurance

  • Technical mentorship to junior team members

  • Driving the development of the SW code (quality, documented, and reusable) to execute data science algorithms

  • Communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders

  • Understanding of the business context of the decisions to be supported

  • Use of R or python to develop or implement models, benchmark and evaluate models, while leveraging both internal and public data sources

  • Interpret the results and provide communicate with business and R&D stakeholders

  • Building and maintaining of knowledge on the data sources, the data quality and metadata

  • Recognition of the repeatable situation and suggesting the appropriate level of automation of analytics

  • Promotion of a culture of modeling and analytics as a differentiator and competitive advantage – an environment that places high value on embedding analytical tools within business processes

  • Staying up to date with cutting edge methods, and sharing this within the team and company

Qualifications and Education Minimum Requirement

  • MSc Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Biomedicine, Molecular Biology, Statistics, Physics, or other related field.

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Expert R and/or Python user

  • Experience with using PyMOL or similar

  • Deep understanding of biological processes

  • Familiarity with cutting edge AI protein methods

  • Extensive knowledge in one or more of the following areas: wet lab, bioinformatics, biology, structural biology, machine learning, software development

  • Record of delivering successful data science products

  • Passion for advanced analytics, good quality code and data science

  • Experience with version controls systems such as git and collaboration tools

  • Experience and/or ability to quickly learn new tools like Databricks.

  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to make high-level presentations for senior executives.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work with incomplete or imperfect data, including ability to interpret and use the analytics results within the real business context.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a globally dispersed team.
