Senior Engineer- Cyber Detection AI

Cyber Security protects the bank and our customers from theft, loss and risk events, through effective and proactive management of cyber security, privacy and operational risk.

This role will be part of the groups Cyber Detection and Response team part of the group’s wider Cyber Defence Operations function.

The mission of the group’s Cyber Detection and Response team is to provide a high-performing, trusted and sustainable capability to detect, contain and remediate attacks from cyber threats against the group’s ecosystem.

The Detection team develops innovative automated techniques to detect real-world cyber-attacks targeting the Groups ecosystem. This is achieved by correlating the information produced by our Cyber Security Centre colleagues in Intel and Response with the data collected from our technology platforms.

Do work that matters

As the Senior  Cyber Detection AI Engineer you will work closely with the Executive Manager of Detection to execute on the strategic adoption of AI and Gen AI in the Cyber detection capability. 
You will work a dedicated and high performing team of detection and response engineers, providing both technical and people leadership, and support and consult on a variety of key detection initiatives.  

Implement AI and GenAI models to enhance Cyber Detection capabilities.

• Build out a vision and roadmap for the adoption of AI in Cyber Detection practices.
• Keep abreast of developments in the use of AI in the Cyber Detection community.
• Train CDO personnel on new detection/automation content, capabilities, and methodologies.
• Provide leadership and guidance to junior members of the team.
• Develop new initiatives where automation or tooling is required to improve workflow.
• Undertake any other tasks assigned by your manager that you have the capability to perform safely. (NOTE: All tasks assigned and carried out must be performed in accordance with all relevant internal Bank policies and external regulatory requirements).

We are interested in hearing from people who have:

• Experience in Cyber Engineering or experience with Data Science and AI Engineering.
• Advanced knowledge of IT Security and software security architecture within a complex environment.
• Strong knowledge of Unix scripting, regular expressions, and other common scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, Shell, etc.).
• Experience using Splunk and ELK technologies.
• Experience utilising Generative AI tools (Co-Pilot etc) in Engineering practices.
• 5-7+ years of information security experience, ideally in operational security roles in hunting, forensics, intrusion detection, and/or threat intelligence OR in Data Science, Generative AI and LLM engineering roles.

Your qualifications:

• Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, related discipline, or equivalent working experience.
• Relevant industry certifications such as SANS/GIAC or Relevant Security Risk Management certifications such as CISM and CISSP are advantageous.
• Participation and membership of relevant industry associations.
