Company Summary: Korro is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing a new class of genetic medicines for both rare and highly prevalent diseases using its proprietary RNA editing platform. Korro is generating a portfolio of differentiated programs that are designed to harness the body’s natural RNA editing process to effect a precise yet transient single base edit. By editing RNA instead of DNA, Korro is expanding the reach of genetic medicines by delivering additional precision and tunability, which has the potential for increased specificity and improved long-term tolerability. Using an oligonucleotide-based approach, Korro expects to bring its medicines to patients by leveraging its proprietary platform with precedented delivery modalities, manufacturing know-how, and established regulatory pathways of approved oligonucleotide drugs. Korro’s lead program is Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD). Korro is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
We are collaborative and united by a common mission. We are building a company with extraordinary people with an audacious vision to create transformative genetic medicines for prevalent diseases. Our values - Rewrite the future, On the Cutting Edge, Better Together, Dynamically Different, Kindness and Integrity form the fabric of the organization. They are reinforced daily and serve as key dimensions in the hiring process to help us ensure that Korro is a magnet for outstanding talent and a great place to work. Join us as we redefine what's possible in genetic medicine and work to make a lasting impact on human health.
Position Summary: As a Scientist in our Machine Learning group, you will work to develop the next generation of models to push forward RNA-based therapeutics and accelerate our ability to bring drugs to patients. We are looking for an established researcher in Machine Learning, capable of developing novel deep learning algorithms applied to our proprietary biological data, and working with our larger scientific team to drive forward our ML system capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement novel transformer-based machine learning architectures to push forward our drug design programs.
  • Collaborate with our laboratory scientists to build models that most effectively inform our internal stakeholders of key insights into mechanisms of RNA biology.
  • Collaborate with our IT and Engineering teams to effectively deploy ML solutions to the organization at large.
  • Design and implement methodologies allowing for improved usage and comprehension of complex models by internal stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD with 0-3 years of experience, or MS with 6-9 years of experience in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Expert knowledge of SOTA transformer architectures, including but not limited to T5, BERT, GPT, PaLM2, etc.
  • Experience training large models at scale, including distributed training strategies.
  • Established experience in machine learning algorithm development and innovation, in industry or academia, with a proven track record of independent research.
  • Strong background in ML Framework libraries, including at least one deep learning framework (e.g., PyTorch, Tensorflow, JAX, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of the model lifecycle process and an MLOps platform (e.g., Databricks, Sagemaker, AzureML, etc.).
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the drug development process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Graph Neural Networks.
  • Experience working with Biological or Chemistry data.
Benefits:  Korro offers competitive compensation, including equity-based compensation, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, a dependent care flexible spending account and a Company-funded health savings account and free parking.
