We seek a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher with expertise in detecting disease using gait/motion analysis, balance, and eye tracking data using machine learning to join the Neurology Artificial Intelligence Program (NAIP). The primary focus of this position will be diagnosing neurological disease through our growing database of patient-generated data, specifically quantitative gait and balance measures. This includes working on aspects such as preprocessing data, training machine learning models, clinical validation studies, and scientific dissemination via publication and code sharing. Prior experience in gait and motion analysis, and/or time series analyses is preferred.

NAIP is a growing group of clinician-investigators, data scientists, and software engineers building AI tools to be used in clinical care and patient centered research. We are embedded within the clinical practice at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and well connected to ongoing research programs within neurology. This role presents an exciting opportunity to apply leading expertise in gait/motion analysis and eye tracking towards developing impactful digital tools for clinical use. It is ideal for someone who is passionate about advancing healthcare through technology, including machine learning. Individuals with experience in gait and motion analysis, machine learning or signal processing are strongly encouraged to apply.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Machine Learning, or similar field.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python)
  • Track record of publications and conference presentations

Experience in one or more of the following is desired:

  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Statistical Analysis
  • Recording, preprocessing, and manipulation of gait/motion capture/accelerometer data
  • Machine learning on gait/motion capture/accelerometer data
  • Collaborative development on GitHub

The successful candidate will be appointed at the Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow level, commensurate with experience. Research and Senior Research Fellow positions at Mayo Clinic are temporary positions intended to provide training and education in research. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Research Fellows or Senior Research Fellows sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

The following is required for completeness of application:

  • Current curriculum vitae with bibliography
  • Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.
  • Please also be prepared to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI before an interview.
