We are seeking a candidate with a strong sense of curiosity and the ability to venture beyond their comfort zone to explore nuanced, complex, and unfamiliar areas of legal research. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

(a) A rigorous yet adaptable research methodology that ensures accurate and comprehensive results, even in areas of law with which they may not be familiar.

(b) A collaborative approach to work, with a genuine appreciation for feedback from domain experts, internal stakeholders and users (both current and potential). The candidate should be open to growth embracing change and challenges. A willingness to revisit and refine their work as necessary.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Product Manager – Westlaw AI, you will:

  • Drive the development of AI-enhanced legal research features, focusing on LLM and agentic-based generative AI technologies.

  • Conduct in-depth legal research using Westlaw and other platforms, creating best-practice research examples to enhance AI functionalities.

  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Labs teams to develop and refine AI-driven legal research tools.

  • Draft, review, and refine prompts for Westlaw AI skills and tools, ensuring high-quality AI content requirements that leverage your expert knowledge in New Zealand law.

  • Evaluate and grade search queries for relevance and comprehensiveness, ensuring alignment with legal research objectives.

  • Work directly with customers to understand their needs and incorporate feedback into product development.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Product Manager – Westlaw AI, if you have:

  • A law degree or a combined law degree, or a degree in library science/information management.

  • 3+ years of experience in a legal setting, such as a law firm, in-house legal department, or professional services role (e.g., solicitor, barrister, library/legal research/knowledge management).

  • Exceptional research skills with expertise in Boolean and other online search languages.

  • Experience in creating and refining LLM prompts and data indexes.

  • Profound knowledge of New Zealand and Australian legal research platforms, including Westlaw and other resources in market.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to multitask effectively.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong grasp of legal terminology.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and team facilitation skills.
