About Team: Personalization team at Walmart develops and manages large scale interfaces leveraging advanced system designs. The experience for millions of customers is catered to their preferences and purchase patterns allowing them to quickly complete their buying experience. While doing so, we look to build a trusted partnership with the customers. This team works on large scale data systems and infers about customer's engagement through their journey, seasons and online activities. We are looking for a Principal Machine Learning Engineer who can lead the architecture and interfaces for generating images. They would be interacting extensively with business users, product owners to build systems that can scale to the generative use cases and at the same time accepts feedback from the users.

What you'll do:

  • Design & Architecture: Provide deep technical expertise and thoughts that help accelerate adoption of the best engineering practices, while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends, and practices.
  • Generative AI Models: Drive the development and integration of generative models (e.g., GANs, diffusion models) tailored for ecommerce and personalized content generation.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions, driving innovation in personalized image creation and ecommerce experiences.
  • Data Analysis & Insights: Leverage advanced data analysis to extract insights from platform usage, model performance, and customer behavior. Use this data to inform model improvements, feature development, and overall platform enhancements.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Design cloud-native solutions leveraging technologies such as Kubernetes, microservices, and serverless architecture to enable seamless scaling and cost efficiency.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, guiding best practices in software engineering, model development, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Thought Leadership: Contribute to the industry through publications, conference talks, or meetups focused on scalable machine learning systems, generative AI, and cloud-native architectures.

What you'll bring:

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field with strong proficiency in Python.
  • 10+ years of experience providing technical and architectural guidance, with 5+ years in technical lead or architect roles.
  • 10+ years of experience in designing and deploying large-scale machine learning systems.
  • Strong proficiency in generative AI techniques (GANs, diffusion models) and their application in personalization and recommendation systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and microservices architecture.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with a track record of leading high-performing technical teams.

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of Python is necessary, while knowledge of Image processing with LLMs is a plus.
  • Prior experience in ecommerce systems, with a deep understanding of personalization and recommendation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with deploying and maintaining AI models in production, including model monitoring and automated retraining workflows.
  • Active participation in relevant conferences and industry forums with a focus on scalable ML systems and generative AI.
