Arctic Wolf Labs is an innovation center of excellence at Arctic Wolf focused on advancing innovation in the field of security operations. Leveraging the more than two trillion security events the Arctic Wolf Security Operations Cloud ingests, parses, enriches, and analyzes each week, Arctic Wolf Labs is responsible for performing threat research on new and emerging adversaries, developing advanced threat detection models, and driving improvement in the speed, scale, and detection abilities of Arctic Wolf’s solution offerings. The Arctic Wolf Labs team comprises security and threat intelligence researchers, data scientists, and security development engineers with deep domain knowledge in artificial intelligence (AI), security R&D, as well as advanced threat offensive and defensive methods and technologies.

About the role

Data is a critical part of Arctic Wolf Network’s mission to solve cyber risk, where we process and analyze hundreds of billions of events every day to look for malicious and risky behaviour. Furthermore, we’re geeks at heart and are passionate about data and solving cybersecurity problems for our customers. The AI & Data Science team works on analyzing Arctic Wolf’s product platforms, internal business challenges, and customer pain points to develop new products and features for our customers.

As a Principal Security Data Scientist focusing on MLOps and full-stack solutions development within the AI & Data Science team, you will be responsible for providing the company with technical leadership and developing novel solutions leveraging cutting-edge advanced analytics and software development techniques. This involves building solutions that enable the development of AI solutions from end-to-end including the model lifecycle (from enabling experimentation to automating production releases), model performance tracking, MLOps, and working closely with engineering, product, operations, and other dependent stakeholders. A successful candidate is self-motivated with a passion for excellence and attention to detail.

This role entails a combination of coaching, design, and IC / implementation at the coding and deployment level.

About you

ML and Big Data Expert (must have)

  • Excellent grasp of Python and data handling techniques (such as advanced SQL). This includes ownership of the complete machine learning life cycle including driving discussion with stakeholders, translating complex problems to machine learning applications, defining performance KPIs, gathering datasets and taking model from development to production and concept drift detection for triggering model training

  • Proven experience with large-scale cloud-native MLOps, including structuring models to run in such an environment. This includes MLOps processes and tooling/infrastructure for experimentation and moving models from training to production, measuring concept drift, and continuous learning in high volume production pipelines, etc.

  • Strong understanding of scalable system design, big data architecture and frameworks and tools for data processing at scale, metadata management, distributed data storage, interactive analytics

  • Proven track record building and shipping machine learning or statistical models that scale to high volumes of data (billions of data points)

  • Strong understanding of classical ML and DNN modeling techniques for supervised and unsupervised learning. This includes proven experience using key ML libraries including scikit-learn, tensorflow, pytorch, sparkml, etc.

  • Strong understanding of how to leverage and integrate LLMs for an enterprise production setting, including RAG and agent/tool usage

  • Strong understanding of ensembles and multi modal machine learning techniques to solve complex problems

Security Expert (nice to have)

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts and subsystems relevant for OS security, Network Security, Cloud Security, IAM, vulnerability management

  • Strong understanding of applications of AI and ML to Detection and Response, optimizing SOC, Threat Intel, Threat Hunting, and IR

Responsibilities

  • Work with the AI Technical Fellow and broader architecture/R&D teams to architect technical roadmaps for company-wide advanced cybersecurity AI & Data Science

  • Influence business impact and cost savings with applications of data driven approaches including AI / ML to MDR’s solutions, such as MDR and MR

  • Influence stakeholders, including domain experts, product, and senior management, to understand use cases and domain-specific problems and identify opportunities for applying machine learning to drive outcomes

  • Develop tools and algorithms for data curation and to support ML delivery

  • Write production quality code and work with other software engineering teams to deploy solutions into production

  • Develop and test statistical and machine learning models for efficacy and operational impact

  • Define KPIs to measure model performance

  • Support deployed solutions as a subject matter expert

  • Be creative and engineer novel features and methods to push beyond our current capabilities

  • Coach the rest of the AI team on software development best practices

Interview process

The interview process is approximately as follows:

  • Phone pre-screening: A recruiter contacts you to briefly discuss your work history and provide an overview of Arctic Wolf. Approximately 30 minutes.

  • Behavioural interview: The Recruitment Manager contacts you to learn more about you and provide more information about your potential role and team. Be prepared to collaborate on a technical problem and talk more about past projects and your career goals. Approximately 1 hour.

  • Technical interview #1: Multiple Data Science team members conduct a technical interview to discuss data science fundamentals including probability/statistics, linear algebra, and machine learning. Questions may include short answer style questions, a coding problem to determine programming skills, and case-study problem(s) to ask you how you’d approach similar problems we face at Arctic Wolf every day. Approximately 2 hours.

  • Technical interview #2: Multiple Data Science team members conduct a technical interview to have you walk us through your past projects and experience in technical detail. Please be prepared to answer questions and whiteboard (virtually) how everything works. Approximately 1 hour.

  • Director interview: Security Intelligence and Analytics director conducts a follow-up interview to learn about you and share more information about the role and team. Approximately 30 minutes.
