The Role
Outrider is an ambitious company that aims to solve autonomous vehicles for yard/warehouse operation. We are building a special electric truck that can achieve complex maneuvers at huge warehouses, among traffic, people and other complicated settings. This is not your generic autonomous vehicle product: we have a specific setting, specific hardware and specific customers.We have great financial backing, a clear product in mind and a highly competent engineering team. Now, we want to expand on critical hires.
We are looking for a Principal Engineer, Offline Tools for our Virtual Vehicle Interfaces and Automation team that is able to steer and execute the technical strategy to accelerate development of our autonomous vehicle. You will use your knowledge of simulation and other offline tools/techniques to enable rapid testing and ad hoc exploration of vehicle behavior prior to deployment to the vehicle. You will work with a great engineering team that is highly motivated to make this a reality and a leadership that is laser focused on a product.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be the technical leader for the Virtual Vehicle Interfaces and Automation team.
- Help to design/improve our key offline development/testing tools including simulation, synthetic data generation, and offline data-replay.
- Lead cross-functional/cross-team efforts to accelerate the development of our autonomous vehicle.
- Communicate with leadership
- Lead make/buy decisions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master in Computer Science or other engineering discipline with sufficient software engineering experience
- 3-5 years experience leading efforts with simulation and other offline tools in the autonomous vehicle or other safety critical space
- Experience in using one or more autonomous vehicle simulation and/or synthetic data generation platforms such as Applied Intuition, Parallel Domains, or even a homegrown solution.
- Experience working in a Linux environment
- Fluent in C++, Python, shell scripting
- Excellent communication skills for leadership and stakeholders
Ideal Qualifications
- Automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as code
- Experience with ROS1 and/or ROS2
- Experience with Docker and related containerization technologies
- Experience with one or more cloud providers, AWS/Azure/GCP
- Experience with Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $180,000 - $300,000
- Equity: Significant equity package commensurate on experience and skills
