The Principal Data Scientist will be responsible for being a leading contributor to the Data Science function focused on Customer retention, expansion, and acquisition. S/he will be responsible for setting and driving the strategic vision, growing the team, and developing a world-class data science and machine learning organization. Data is at the heart of our business and strategy.
This role will partner with other executive leaders to leverage data science, analytics and machine learning as a strategic differentiator for the business - working across the organization to support a variety of business and technical problems.
To succeed in this role you must have experience in:
Thought Leadership and Platform Development:
Be a thought leader in designing and developing data and machine learning platforms.
Drive capability enhancements across enterprise-wide analysis tools.
Hands-On Development and Team Guidance:
Develop novel ML models to support customer needs and company strategic areas
Lead by example: engage in hands-on development while guiding a small team.
Collaborate with data scientists, researchers, machine learning engineers, and business analysts to solve critical company challenges.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Customer teams.
Leverage data science capabilities to address strategic problems.
Model Performance Tuning and Augmentation:
Optimize existing ML models for better performance.
Explore innovative ways to augment and enrich the underlying dataset.
Desired Qualifications:
8+ years of previous experience in a hands-on data science role, preferably customer and marketing focused.
Hands-on experience leading a team.
Strong business acumen. Brings commercial and business orientation, with a track record of leveraging data science to identify trends, formulate business insights, and develop actionable solutions to solve critical business, customer, and organizational problems.
Ability to break down high-level business problems into concrete solutions.
Excellent communicator that can bridge between a wide range of stakeholders (technical and non-technical); proven ability to develop strong partnerships with internal and cross-functional peers, with a specific history partnering successfully with product and engineering teams.
Academic/Research foundations - MS or PhD preferred. Foundation in Mathematics, Economics/Econometrics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or related field.

If you are hired in Belmont, California, the compensation range for this position is between $155,750 and $222,500 for full-time employees, in addition to eligibility for variable pay, equity, and benefits. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, health and wellness, 401k, ESPP, vacation, parental leave, and more! The salary may vary depending on your location, skills, and experience.
