Position Overview: 

Description: Are you passionate about leveraging technology to drive innovation in a dynamic environment? The HP Workforce Experience Platform team is seeking a forward-thinking Principal Data Scientist to support the a conversion to improve the Company’s cash conversion cycle (“Hercules”). In this role, you will utilize your expertise in data science and financial modeling to identify opportunities that enhance inventory management and optimize decision-making processes.

The ideal candidate will work collaboratively across cross-functional teams, utilizing one of the largest data lakes in the world to solve real-world customer issues through AI and machine learning. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Collaborative Development: 

  • Work closely with product management and stakeholders to understand strategic goals and user engagement strategies related to the Hercules program. 

  • Identify AI opportunities and develop, prototype, and iterate predictive models that support inventory optimization across millions of devices. 

  • Independently structures analytical approaches and develops project strategies by applying advanced, in-depth supply chain and industry knowledge.

  • Interprets benchmarking and statistical data to create new processes, strategies, and tools to be used for supply chain business objectives.

  • Conducts investigation and prepares business case and financial analysis for supply chain projects and programs.

  • Leads large, cross-functional project teams, providing mentoring and guidance to achieve project goals.

  • Owns complex strategic supply chain projects from planning through to execution and provides findings resulting from project execution.

  • Consults with business executives on a wide range of high-level supply chain issues, including risk management and new growth opportunities.

  • Works with key stakeholders as required to optimize supply chain solutions and provide input into new process capability requirements, driving an improved implementation experience and high adoption rate.

  • Acts as a key advisor to senior management on the development of overall supply chain strategies and long-term goals of the organization.

  • Leverages industry and subject matter expertise to contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas in supply chain projects and programs.

  • Creates new frameworks for delivery and contributes to tools, templates, and intellectual capital.

Data Analysis and Financial Modeling: 

  • Create and maintain financial models to analyze inventory performance, forecast trends, and assess the impact of inventory decisions on overall business performance. 

  • Conduct A/B testing and experimentation to validate model effectiveness and inform strategic recommendations. 

Program Management: 

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives related to data science, ensuring timely execution and alignment with strategic objectives. 

  • Provide regular updates on program progress, risks, and issues to key stakeholders, maintaining a focus on strategy and results. 

Subject Matter Expertise: 

  • Act as a subject matter expert by providing training and demonstrations of key product functionality for support, sales, and onboarding teams. 

  • Influence decision-making and problem-solving across teams, driving continuous improvement through data-driven insights. 

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics). | Four-year or Graduate Degree in Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations management, Business Administration, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.

  • 10+ years of experience in predictive modeling and data science roles, preferably in supply chain or inventory management. | Typically has 10+ years of work experience, preferably in supply chain, operations, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark, with extensive experience in statistical analysis and algorithms.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a deep understanding of machine learning concepts and tools. 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex data insights in a clear and actionable manner. 

  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate ambiguity while working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow/Keras, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn. 

  • Familiarity with cloud computing and MLOps tools, including AWS (SageMaker, EMR) or Azure. 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Graph API and its applications. 

The base pay range for this role is $115,850 to $178,400 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only).  Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
