The EUV Source team in San Diego operates in a fast-paced, uniquely innovative, and challenging environment to deliver new-to-industry products supporting the commercialization of EUV technology by ASML. The Principal Data Science/AI Architect will be part of the EUV Source Performance team within ASML San Diego. Due to high complexity of the EUV light source, we, as Source Performance, are a dedicated team with the mission to validate and ensure that EUV sources meet or exceed customer performance requirements and expectations. In order to execute this mission, EUV Source Performance acts as the critical enabler of knowledge acquisition and transfer throughout the products development process, via:
Substantive participation in the technology development and system definition process for products in definition and early development stage.
Ensuring quality of the module to sub-system to system-level performance testing and validation for the products in integration phase.
Driving technology improvements enabling new products field release and refinement of system specifications based upon deep understanding of factory and field performance.
The creation and delivery of analytic tooling, action plans and procedures to drive maximum solving power of our customer support organizations for sustaining products.
The Principal Data Science/AI Architect will be responsible for setting the technical direction of the team responsible for extracting the highest business value possible from the data available and to further refine requirements towards the data engineering team to ensure a rich and complete dataset is available for consumption. This role is a key enabler to further develop the site’s data science and AI competence. In addition to setting the technical direction of the team, this person will also mentor, train, and guide less experienced engineers across a wide variety of data science and AI projects. These projects include physics based model development, machine learning, Gen-AI, reduced order models, and the development of digital twins representing the EUV source, its sub-components, and the factory.
The role requires a willingness to develop a deep understanding across multiple engineering disciplines beyond data science in order to lead the team effectively. To be successful, the candidate must combine strong technical skills, problem solving and numerical analysis skills, and desire for life-long learning. In addition, to be effective in the role, candidates must possess interpersonal skills to cross functional boundaries and to build constructive and effective relationships across the organization and promote cross-functional and cross-sector collaboration.
Develop a technical roadmap representing the data science and AI activities of the site that supports the product roadmap and aligns with business objectives.
Oversee the end-to-end AI and data science lifecycle, from data collection and preprocessing to model deployment and monitoring, providing technical leadership and guidance.
Train, guide, and mentor engineers in the best applications of data science solutions for various complex problems we are trying to resolve.
Apply theoretical models, concepts, methods, and novel experimental techniques to quantitatively interpret performance of EUV source systems across a wide range of issues and multiple technical disciplines.
Produce clear, concise technical documentation in defined company formats, present results and align with cross-functional teams.
Work closely with and lead cross-functional groups (systems engineering, development engineering, scientists, IT, global customer support personnel, manufacturing personnel, senior management, marketing, external customers) to set clear technical direction.
Travel as required to both customer sites and other ASML sites for the purposes of reporting, alignment, and collaboration.
Complete service, expense reports, and other administrative responsibilities in accordance with ASML’s procedures and with supervisor’s approval.
MS in Computer Science, Data Science, or Machine Learning. PhD preferred. Candidates with a degree in Physics that have specialized their careers in data science will also be considered.
Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role. 10+ years’ experience overall.
Experience in the semiconductor industry a plus.
Must have significant experience working in the following cloud and development environments: Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Google Distributed Cloud Edge (GDCE), Apache Spark, Azure Databricks, Python, MATLAB, and related technologies. Additionally, proficiency with MLFlow for managing the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, including experimentation, reproducibility, and deployment, is required.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing and implementing machine learning and deep learning architectures. This includes:
• Developing and optimizing neural network architectures using frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
• Implementing scalable machine learning models and algorithms in a cloud-based environment.
• Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, and other AI domains.
• Knowledge of model deployment and serving strategies, including the use of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in using GPU and TPU hardware accelerators for deep learning training and inference.
• Experience in monitoring and maintaining the performance of deployed models to ensure they meet business and technical requirements.”

Understanding of the concepts of optics and lasers, plasma generation, and control systems.
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent inter-personal and customer service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building.

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:
$196,500-327,500Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
