A Research Fellow position is now available in the bIomedical Knowledge Empowered AI lab (bio-IKEA) in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics under the mentorship of Dr. Nansu Zong.  The position will be supervised by Dr. Zong who is specialized in 1) computational drug repurposing, and 2) deep learning-based predictive models. The role will utilize the state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs), Reinforcement Learning (RL), and diverse deep learning models to build predictive models in the area of drug repurposing and precision medicine. Large-scaled biomedical datasets (e.g., knowledge graphs) and patient electronic health records (EHRs) are used to study Alzheimer’s disease, heart diseases, and cancers.  

This position is expected to:

  • Utilize LLMs, RL, and deep learning to build predictive models for diverse applications in biomedical informatics (e.g., computational drug repurposing, and outcome prediction of treatment based on EHR)
  • Work with large-scale biomedical datasets (e.g., knowledge graphs) and patient electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Coordinate and oversee parts of the research project
  • Work closely with top-notch physicians from Mayo Clinic

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics or a related field with solid programming skills.
  • Be experienced in one or more of the following areas:  Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Semantic Web/Knowledge graph, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and LLM
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Upon background check and CCATS Executive Committee approval, Research Fellow may have patient/research subject contact directly relating to and incidental to the original research program. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
