ArcelorMittal Maizieres Research is the worldwide largest research center of ArcelorMittal company. The campus is composed with 4 labs dedicated to specific areas: Product, Process, Bars& Wires, Pilote. The job is proposed in the Digital Technologies cluster, part of the Process Lab. The mission of the cluster is to develop digital and cyber-physics (based on sensors and data science) solutions for process control and optimization in one hand and product control on the other hand. About 40 people, aprentices, technicians, engineers, researchers are working in this cluster. Process monitoring and optimization, especially for energy-intensive and critical processes, are very important, directly linked to the digitalization transformation (industry 4.0) and the decarbonization programms of ArcelorMittal company.

Your role

As Research Engineer, you will be involved in digitalization of the industry which heavy focus on quality & reliability through Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) algorithm & satistical modeling. 

Your main activities will include the following: 

  • Develop and deploy machine learning solution for process monitoring
  • Develop and deploy machine learning solution for process optimization
  • Lead research activities in the framework of research projects and technical supports to plants
  • Contribute to the development and renewal of the activities: proposal of new research axes, new projects

Your profile 

Requirements: 

  • You hold a Master's degree or PhD in computer science or statistics or in a related field
  • You have at least 3 years of experience in data science / statistics role supporting the industry
  • You have extensive programming experience in Python technology stack (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, seaborn, shap etc.). Experience in working with virtual environments and version control (e.g. git)
  • You have Excellent knowledge of machine learning algorithms for clustering, classification, regression, anomaly detection, and optimization, preferably with both small, big data and time series
  • You have excellent storytelling and communication skills, both oral and written, especially in explaining complex concepts in simple terms
  • You have excellent social skills to work in a team 
  • You are able to travel worldwide
  • You have advanced levels of English and French 

Desirable knowledge: 

  • Experience in process monitoring & Fault detection and Diagnosis (FDD) would be a plus 
  • Exposure to cloud computing platforms will be considered as a plus
  • Knowledge in image analysis & deep learning (PyTorch) will be considered as a plus
