Roster: Monday to Friday

The key mission of this role will be to design, develop and deliver the optimisation algorithms driving the AI solutions & systems that transform the capability and coordination of one of the largest vertically integrated mine, rail and port operations in the world. The right candidate will bring a strong curiosity and technical perspective to these challenges, including a depth of experience in combinatorial optimisation and algorithm design, along with a drive for delivering outcomes and working software in cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and implement optimisation algorithms and models in the AI systems to drive productivity in our integrated supply chain operations
  • Establish monitoring systems to track the performance of optimisation algorithms and models, and opportunities for improvement
  • Engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to shape AI system requirements
  • Maintaining the backlogs for AI solution development, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to prioritise their development
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in OR, in particular the intersection with AI systems, and incorporate emerging techniques and technologies into our design

Qualifications and Experience

  • An advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or engineering
  • Experience (1-3+ years) in operations research & optimisation system development in the mining, transport or heavy industry sector
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in applying combinatorial optimisation and heuristic techniques to scheduling problems, including decision-making under uncertainty
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills and a passion for mathematical modelling of real-world systems
  • Strong knowledge of optimisation tools and technologies (i.e. CPLEX, Gurobi)
  • Proficiency in general programming languages and integration into larger software systems (i.e. C++, Python)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts within a multi-disciplinary product team
  • Familiarity with machine learning and statistical analysis, and an interest in the intersection of OR and AI techniques (beneficial)
