The Team:
 

The Fortify Aviator team is building a suite of tools to help our clients leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to review, audit, and resolve vulnerabilities. You will be Software Engineer on the team, and you will contribute to projects that aid in building these tools.  You will work with bright, motivated teammates to implement solutions to some of the toughest code analysis problems in the industry.

Generative AI and LLMs are transforming the world, and the AppSec world is no exception. Fortify Aviator is powered by an LLM. The team is aggressively expanding Fortify Aviator to support more vulnerability categories, more languages, more use cases, and more deployment models. This demands a multidimensional skill set that extends beyond traditional programming knowledge.

What the role offers:

  • Act as the senior expert on the team on the topic of LLM-specific knowledge. You’ll collaborate with prompt and tool engineers who have a stronger focus on the application security subject matter.
  • Manage the periodic transitions of Fortify Aviator from one LLM base model to the next.
  • Develop the use of fine-tuning in the context of Fortify Aviator, with various goals in mind: quality, performance, costs and the possibility to deploy private instances of Fortify Aviator.
  • Contribute to the development of a Fortify Aviator service available to off-cloud Fortify users, while still using a hosted LLM.
  • Develop a completely air-gapped, locally running version of Fortify Aviator.

What you need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Research experience in machine learning, deep learning, and/or natural language processing.
  • At least 7+ years of experience in software development.
  • Experience developing applications powered by modern LLMs, such as GPT, Claude, Gemini, or Llama models.
  • A strong knowledge of the state-of-the-art in LLM, which you continuously keep up-to-date.
  • Experience in fine-tuning LLMs.
  • Experience in manually deploying and operating LLMs (as opposed to using a cloud service), and a deep understanding of the associated hardware and scalability concerns.
  • Java programming and software architecture/DevOps skills.

Desired Knowledge and Skills:

  • Python programming skills, and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • An interest in application security.

One last thing: 

  • You are persistent and inquisitive. You have to understand why things are happening the way they are.
  • You are determined to understand cyber attack techniques at a very detailed level.
  • You are a self-starter who is able to work with minimal management, however have strong collaboration and interpersonal skills to work together with several other professionals from other information security fields.
  • You’re a creative thinker who wants to answer the question, “Why?”
  • Your workstation is a pyramid of monitors that you can't take your eyes off of at the risk of missing something.
  • You have a desire to learn new technologies.
  • Your sense of humor, passion and enthusiasm shines through in everything you do.
