Team Description:

You will be part of the Powertrain Data team at Lucid, working on innovative projects that leverage Generative AI to optimize manufacturing processes, enhance the reliability of our electric vehicles and develop robust event detection models. Our team is focused on creating data-driven solutions that support engineers, optimize vehicle performance, and improve customer experience. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and other data scientists to drive these initiatives. 

Role/Responsibilities:  

  • Generative AI Model Development: Assist in the research and development of Generative AI models that can simulate manufacturing scenarios, predict potential faults, perform root cause analysis and enhance the decision-making process in production environments 
  • Event Detection and Alert Diagnosis: Develop and refine algorithms for detecting and diagnosing alerts within manufacturing data streams, focusing on early identification of potential issues and reducing downtime
  • Data Analysis and Preprocessing: Engage in cleaning, preprocessing, and analyzing large datasets from manufacturing sensors and systems to ensure quality input for machine learning models
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, validate models, and communicate findings through reports and visualizations that translate complex data insights into actionable improvements
  • Airflow Pipeline Development: Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines using Apache Airflow to automate the workflow for data processing and model training

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python with experience in AI/ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
  • Machine Learning and Data Science: Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, with experience in scikit-learn, pandas, and NumPy for data processing and model development
  • Data Handling: Experience with large-scale datasets, particularly those related to time-series data or sensor outputs from manufacturing processes
  • Apache Airflow: Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow for orchestrating complex data pipelines and workflows

Nice to Have:

  • Generative AI Knowledge: Familiarity with Generative AI models like GANs, VAEs, or transformer-based architectures, with a focus on applications in simulation or fault detection
  • Experience with Industrial Data: Exposure to manufacturing systems, Industrial IoT (IIoT), or understanding of the challenges in a factory or production environment
  • Big Data and Cloud Tools: Familiarity with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Visualization and Reporting: Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or custom Python visualizations using Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly

Education:

  • Field(s) of study: Data Science, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program at an accredited university
  • Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS) 

Program Information: 

  • Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules. 
  • Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
  • Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be office work.
  • Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $40 to $60 (subject to changes).
  • Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis. 
  • Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.  
  • Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check. 
  • Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen. 
  • Medical benefits: Dental, vision, and medical on day 1 for all interns working full-time.
  • Visa Sponsorship: Lucid may but is not obligated to sponsor foreign national employees requiring company sponsorship for U.S employment authorization. 
Compensation Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.   Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.  (Cash or equity incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.)Base Pay Range (hourly)$40$60 USD
