Intrinsic is Alphabet’s bet aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what’s possible for industrial robotics in the near future – with software and data at the core.

Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics.

Role

As a Motion Control Intern you will enable running modern insertion and rigid body assembly approaches on industrial robots. The Motion control team is working on a sensor based control framework that allows the creation of unique new robotic skills. Your task is to combine the existing framework with a learning based strategy for insertions.

We are seeking a highly motivated student to join the motion control team working on our production grade robot control stack. You will try approaches coming from internal and external research and evaluate if they are suitable for  industrial use cases. While doing that your feedback will be used to further improve the APIs and performance of the Intrinsic robot control stack.

In a second step you will explore how a force and visually guided insertion can be combined. Therefore you will work with industrial robots, sensors and cameras in our lab.

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Explore learning based insertion strategies on the Intrinsic platform.
  • Contribute to bring machine learning based assembly to industrial robots.
  • Contribute to our sensor based control stack, especially force control.
  • Develop demonstrations on industrial robots.

Skills you will need to be successful

  • Master’s or PhD student in Electrical Engineering or another field related to motion control and robotics.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in modern software development languages, preferably C++ and Python.
  • Interest in applying modern robotics research on production ready industrial robots.
  • Knowledge of motion control theory or robot related machine learning approaches. Knowledge of force control or visual guided control is beneficial.
  • Enthusiasm to work with robot hardware.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills. Speaking German is beneficial.

At Intrinsic, we don't just accept difference - we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, our products and our community. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status. We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.
