About this role:

Biogen is seeking an experienced Bioinformatics professional to lead the design, implementation, and growth of our information architecture. This highly visible and valued role will be instrumental in advancing our products through R&D and clinical trials. The successful candidate will manage infrastructure and resources to meet organizational needs and work cross-functionally to identify long-term, scalable, and practical solutions for research, translational, clinical, and business operations. Additionally, the role involves utilizing advanced computational and statistical methods to analyze large datasets from diverse sources (genetic, clinical, biological) to predict disease progression, identify potential drug targets and biomarkers, and inform development decisions. By integrating various biological insights, the candidate will aim to accelerate the discovery and development of new therapies through predictive modeling and data analysis. What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with the R&D team across two geographic locations to implement and maintain key research systems and develop computational biology strategies.
  • Lead and inspire the organization around common IT and informatics goals, including work with the clinical development team to drive clinical informatics and clinical data management.
  • Develop and implement data integration and analytics in support of Immunology strategies across the company.
  • Experience in maintaining and integrating a cloud-based computing environment (AWS)
  • Define and implement data architecture and strategy for data management.
  • Champion data management, governance, and quality across the company.
  • Communicate strategy to ensure alignment with scientific, operational, and senior management teams.
  • Expand department expertise to meet corporate objectives.
  • Stay updated on industry trends to meet business needs efficiently.
  • Use computational and statistical methods to analyze large datasets and inform drug discovery and development.
  • Integrate biological insights to accelerate therapy discovery and development.
  • Manage infrastructure and resources for scalable and practical solutions in research, development, clinical, and business operations.
  • In partnership, iterate on strategy for IT infrastructure and software capabilities by collaborating with others to facilitate business needs definition, workflow design, and integration of scientific processes and technology into effective IT solutions.

This position is Hybrid based to our South San Francisco office and requires frequent onsite presence. Candidates must be within a commutable distance to be considered.  

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. degree or M.S. with extensive, highly relevant experience in Genomics, Omics, data integration solutions, and Bioinformatics.
  • Minimum of 12+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with a track record of successful drug development
  • Strong track record of managing cross-functional innovation initiatives and external partnerships
  • Experience with evaluating, implementing, and managing scientific data management platforms, cloud computing (AWS), and IT vendor services.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and delivering on schedule in a start-up biotech environment.
  • Experience in successfully implementing, utilizing, and leveraging outsourcing strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific information to diverse audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, investigators, and internal and external stakeholders through a highly collaborative approach
  • Demonstrated understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to adapt to increasing scope and complexity of work brought on by growth/change and help others manage through change.
  • Solid scientific/technical knowledge to ensure project scope and fit technology for applications, networking, and information systems strategic roadmap and execution of all informatics solutions and IT services.

Additional Information

The base salary range for this position is $200,000 – $275,000. Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location,and internal equity.  

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
