Summary:
This AI Research Scientist position will bridge the gap between research and application of machine learning algorithms to accelerate broiler genetic development. This role will lead the strategic application of innovative AI and machine learning technologies to the forefront of poultry genetics, collaborating directly with experts in genetics, breeding and software development to shape the future of agriculture through AI.
Qualifications and experience:
- PhD in computer science, computational biology, structural biology, synthetic biology, biophysics, bioinformatics or related discipline with a strong emphasis on data analytics.
- Demonstrated expertise in generative AI and deep learning algorithms, frameworks, associated programming languages and systems architecture.
- The ability to independently design, build and evaluate ML models.
- Proven track record of independent problem-solving from hypothesis generation to result interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
- Preferred candidates would have at least 5 years post graduate experience, however other candidates with various levels of experience will be considered.
- Candidate must have a proven record of success in relevant field (publications and/or other achievements) and demonstrated experimental design and execution.
- Experience developing and implementing short and long-term research projects and achieve results.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Develop and execute predictive computational models of broiler performance using multiple modalities of genetic, molecular and digital data.
- Incorporate virtual phenotypes into the development of AI-driven selection strategies.
- Develop digital twin environments to optimize business operations based on model-simulated outcomes.
- Guide the selection and adaptation of machine learning techniques to meet specific scientific questions, involving extensive data mining and pattern recognition in complex datasets
- Evaluate and recommend the best computational frameworks and platforms for handling extensive biological data;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions to improve broiler performance.
- Write software following best practices for producing readable, repeatable, and reuseable code
- Communicate methodologies and results to stakeholders with diverse technical backgrounds.
- Guide AI models from research and development to production and deployment where necessary.
- Provide thought leadership and strategic insights to enhance machine learning capabilities and propose innovative solutions that could lead to breakthroughs in poultry trait improvement.
- Understanding of experimental design to ensure development and validation activities are reproducible
- Interprets, summarizes data and develops new experiments based on results and shares results across Research organization.
- Demonstrate maturity and emotional intelligence with high capacity to work collaboratively and communicate with co-workers and external parties.
- Provides solutions to researchers within and across projects by identifying opportunities to improve livestock health traits.
- Remains current on new technology by reviewing literature, participating in professional meetings and career development activities and encouraging others to bring information into research activities.
- Contribute to scientific publications and conferences.
- Strive to advance skills and display a willingness to accept future development.
