Director of Data Science 
South West London - Onsite (5 days)

As the Director of Data Science, you will shape Zapp's data strategy, driving actionable insights from our vast and diverse datasets. 

You will build and lead a team of talented data scientists, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement data-driven solutions that contribute to the company's overall success.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy:

1. Collaborate with executive leadership to integrate data science into the broader business strategy.
2. Fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Team Management:

1. Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists.
2. Manage team resources, budgets, and project timelines effectively.

Technical Expertise:

1. Provide technical guidance and oversight on complex data science projects.
2. Ensure the team utilises best practices and cutting-edge technologies in their work.

Data Governance and Compliance:

1. Establish and maintain robust data governance practices to ensure data quality, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards.
2. Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address data privacy and security concerns.

Collaboration and Communication: 

1. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, engineering, and business stakeholders, to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business outcomes.
2. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.

Key Initiatives:

Supply Chain Optimization:

1. Combine historical purchasing trends with forward-looking signals to help the business procure just the right amount of products at the right time to the right locations.

Delivery Promise Time Optimization:

1. Analyse historical delivery data to identify patterns, trends, and potential areas for improvement in delivery promise times.
2. Develop predictive models to accurately estimate delivery times based on various factors such as customer location, rider availability, and historical performance.
3. Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of delivery promise models, making adjustments as necessary to optimise accuracy.

Recommendation Engine Development:

1. Design and implement recommendation engines for personalised product suggestions and content.
2. Collaborate with product teams to understand user behaviour, preferences, and feedback, incorporating these insights into Zapp’s recommendations.
3. Experiment with different recommendation algorithms, A/B testing methodologies, and optimization strategies to improve the relevance and effectiveness of recommendations.
4. Work closely with engineering teams to integrate recommendation models into our platforms and ensure seamless user experiences

Custom Segmentation:

1. Develop and implement custom segmentation strategies based on user demographics, behaviour, and transaction history.
2. Collaborate with marketing teams to identify target segments for personalised campaigns and promotions.
3. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders based on the analysis of segmented data

Preferred Skills:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience and 3+ years in a leadership role within data science in e-commerce, logistics, or a related industry
• Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing data science teams.
• Strong proficiency in machine learning, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
• Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
