The Role: Data Scientist - Operations & Forecasting

Location: Remote

About This Role:

As a Data Scientist at Hazel Health, you will play a crucial role in our data-driven growth strategy through the effective development of forecasting and classification models to help improve our abilities to predict where demand will grow for our services and to gain more insights from our data on how to transform our clinical programs. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement scalable and reliable models and present findings generated by the models to stakeholders who can then take action. This role will be a blend of problem discovery, model building, presenting, iterating, and implementing models in production and monitoring the models. This is a technical data role with a strong preference for healthcare and workforce acumen. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and refine forecasting models to predict demand growth for healthcare services.
  • Build and implement classification models to extract actionable insights from clinical data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clinicians, product managers, and engineers, to integrate models into clinical programs and business strategies.
  • Present complex data analyses and model outcomes to stakeholders, translating technical findings into actionable business insights.
  • Iterate on models based on feedback and new data to continually enhance accuracy and relevance.
  • Deploy models into production environments, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  • Monitor and maintain deployed models, addressing performance issues and ensuring they remain aligned with business needs.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify new opportunities for using data to drive impact within the organization.
  • Utilize healthcare and workforce data to inform decision-making and support strategic initiatives.
  • Document methodologies and findings, contributing to the organization's knowledge base and best practices.

About You:

  • 5+ years hands-on experience developing reproducible and scalable research studies.
  • Consistently worked with forecasting (ex: ARIMA, ETS, SARIMA, Prophet, Holt-Winters) and classification (ex: logistic regression, GBM, k-NN, CNNs) models along 
  • Consistently work with languages like Python, SQL, and R, along with libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, and NLP-specific tools like NLTK, SpaCy, or Hugging Face transformers.
  • Possesses ability to effectively communicate complex model outputs and insights to stakeholders, translating technical findings into actionable business insights.
  • Have developed and refined forecasting models to predict supply and demand growth, preferably for healthcare services organizations.
  • Built and implemented classification models to extract actionable insights from clinical data.
  • Worked collaboratively with cross-functional teams to integrate models into workflows and business strategies and iterated on models based on feedback and new data to continually enhance accuracy and relevance.
  • Deployed models into production environments, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  • Monitored and maintained deployed models, addressing performance issues and ensuring they remain aligned with business needs.
  • Conducted exploratory data analysis to identify new opportunities for using data to drive impact within the organization.
  • Documented methodologies and findings, contributing to the organization's knowledge base and best practices.
  • Preference for a Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Public Health, Behavioral Health, or a related field.
