The Capacity, Supply Chain & Provisioning Engineering (CSCP-E) group is an exciting and fast evolving engineering group within Microsoft that powers Microsoft’s Cloud-First mission. We are responsible for supporting the supply chain that powers Microsoft Azure’s cloud infrastructure. We are seeking a Data Scientist to strengthen our Data Science and Machine Learning capabilities within our engineering team. The ideal candidate will blend Data Science and Software Engineering skills and have the ability to work across teams to build successful solutions for a diverse set of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist II, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Designing and implementing software programs, algorithms, models, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and analyze large datasets from diverse sources.
  • Writing clean, readable, and maintainable code to deliver specific features, enhancements, and models.
  • Developing and deploying end-to-end Machine Learning, Data Science, and Data Engineering pipelines and workflows.
  • Automating processes to streamline operations and ensure efficient data processing.
  • Collaborating with Product Managers, Engineers, Engineering Leads, Data Scientists, Forecasters, and other stakeholders to ensure project success and alignment.
  • Staying updated with the current state of the industry, including knowledge of tools, techniques, strategies, and processes that can be utilized to improve process efficiency and performance.
  • Migrating R models, scripts, libraries, and utilities to Python, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
  • Writing unit and functional test cases to validate the accuracy and reliability of data science and engineering solutions.
  • Engaging with program, engineering, and data science teams to gather requirements and execute implementations effectively.
  • Working on Time Series Demand Forecasting using Statistical, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Generative AI models to deliver accurate predictions.
  • Involving and working on forecast/model explicability using Machine Learning, LLM, or Generative AI techniques.
  • Following Microsoft’s engineering and security principles in coding, packaging, and deploying software components.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field 

    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) or consulting experience

    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in coding languages such as Python, PySpark, and/or R.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in Big Data Technologies and Platforms like Azure Synapse, Azure Fabric, Databricks, Hadoop, etc.
  • Experience with machine learning.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate/Master's/Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 3+ year(s) of data-science/machine learning experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques, and reporting results).
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Time Series Forecasting.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Generative AI.
  • Proficiency in coding languages such as Python, PySpark, and R
  • Experience and/or knowledge in handling large volumes of data (big data).
  • Experience and/or knowledge with cloud technologies.

Data Science IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
