Background

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Data Scientist with a passion for leveraging data to drive innovation and solve critical challenges in biotechnology. This role will be integral to our research and development efforts, applying advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze complex biological datasets, identify key insights, and contribute to the development of novel therapeutics, diagnostics, or other biotech solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of biological principles, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques to analyze large and complex biological datasets (e.g., multi-omics, proteomics, imaging, clinical trial data, real-world evidence, and China-specific datasets).

  • Collaborate closely with biologists, bioinformaticians, clinicians, and other scientists to understand research questions and translate them into actionable data science projects.

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure for efficient data processing, storage, and analysis.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in biological data.

  • Evaluate the performance of models and algorithms, and iterate to improve their accuracy and robustness.

  • Visualize and communicate complex data insights and findings through reports, presentations, and interactive dashboards.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and relevant areas of biotechnology.

  • Contribute to the development of best practices for data analysis and interpretation within the organization.

  • Document methodologies, code, and results clearly and comprehensively.

  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.

Requirements

Master's or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline with a strong emphasis on data analysis. A genuine interest in the application of data science to advance biotechnology and improve human health.

AI and Machine Learning Applications

  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) applying data science techniques to real-world problems, preferably within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industries.

  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in data science (e.g., Python, R) and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Bioconductor).

  • Solid understanding of statistical inference, machine learning algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, deep learning), and their application to biological data.

  • Experience working with large datasets and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with biological databases, data formats, and analysis tools relevant to specific areas of biotech (e.g., genomics, proteomics, imaging).

  • Excellent data visualization skills using tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, ggplot2, or Tableau.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to independently formulate and address research questions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience with specific types of biological data analysis (e.g., genomics analysis, image analysis, clinical trial data analysis, drug discovery informatics).

  • Experience with developing and deploying machine learning models in a production environment is a plus

Lifescience Background:

  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, EMA) and data privacy considerations in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.

  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and pipelines.

  • Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals or presentations at relevant conferences.

Problem-Solving and Teamwork:

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting problems and working with a team to resolve production issues

SoftSkills

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.

  • A focus on solution delivery, with excellent time management and organization skills

  • Independent, self-driven person with a high sense of accountability.

  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English & Mandarin, both in written and verbal.
