We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the regulatory and economic capital calculations across the FNB Retail portfolios. They will lead a team of data scientists and be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely capital reporting submissions. They must be able to interpret insights, address business opportunities and problems, and implement business strategy, with minimal guidance.

You will be an ideal candidate if you have:

  • Minimum Qualification - B.Sc. (Hons.) or higher, with a focus on mathematics, statistics, and related fields
  • Experience – Minimum 5 years, preferably 8 years
  • These skills or aptitudes would be beneficial:
    • Solid grasp of SAS coding
    • Interest in or knowledge of banking regulations and the Basel framework
    • Experience in credit risk
    • Experience in migrating processes to a production environment
    • Experience in managing other professionals

The typical responsibility of this role includes:

  • Regulatory Capital and Economic Capital Management:
    • Implement, or assist the team to implement, changes, enhancements and fixes to the monthly processes.
    • Think strategically about how Capital Management fits into the FirstRand Group and put initiatives in place to improve insights and assist business units.
    • Oversee monthly Regulatory and Economic Capital runs for the Retail portfolios, ensuring code changes and results are accurate.
    • Identify and address anomalies or unexpected movements.
    • Update and validate the BA200 data asset for stakeholders.
    • Conduct 6-monthly Group reporting and ad hoc analysis for new model impacts (e.g., new capital models to be implemented, Basel Reforms).
  • Reporting and Communication:
    • Report monthly results, risk reconciliations, and significant events to senior management.
    • Manage ERM deliverables and expectations.
    • Liaise with product houses on unexplained differences.
  • Team Support and Development:
    • Review and approve code changes via Git (BitBucket).
    • Assist junior team members with report validation and provide guidance.
    • Conduct regular check-ins with direct reports to manage workload and address concerns.
    • Set up and lead monthly check-in meetings to ensure smooth operations.
  • Audit and Compliance:
    • Engage with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and documentation.
    • Attend product house Risk monthly meetings to monitor potential capital impacts.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Continuously seek and implement process and code improvements.
    • Guide the development of monthly processes to move on-platform and into production environments.
