Within the Informatics & Predictive Sciences team at CITRE (Seville, Spain), we seek enthusiastic candidates for a Scientist role on the Translational Data Science team. We are looking for a demonstrated research background in data science or computational biology, a track record of creatively solving technical data problems, and a proven ability to design and deploy data products based on the collaborative research aims. The position is based in Seville, Spain.

The candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on designing and adapting innovative programmatic methods for creating analysis ready data products to enable biomarker research. The candidate will engage in pioneering and impactful research alongside highly collaborative computational and experimental scientists with expertise in machine learning, bioinformatics, cell biology, and cell therapy. We encourage inquiries from those with a background in data science who have a passion for innovation and interdisciplinary application of programmatic approaches to life sciences data. Soft skills such as creativity, open-mindedness, high adaptability to dynamic research environments, and strong interpersonal skills for effectively developing user-focused tools will be highly regarded.

The Role  

  • Collaborate closely with Data Operations to optimize the design of data ingestion pipelines through workflow efficiencies for laboratory scientists, connections to existing data flows, and robust data output quality assessments.
  • Contribute to the data as a product reproducible research-centric ways of working.
  • Create automated data visualizations for lab scientists.
  • Partner with IT for in-house generated data back-up and redundancy.
  • Evaluate and enable tools for automated analysis such as flow cytometry gating.
  • Adherence to FAIR data principles to surface data products and knowledge for re-use.

Minimal Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or data-related field (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Genomics, Bioinformatics) with 5 years industry/academic experience, Master’s degree with at least 3 years industry/academic experience or a PhD.
  • Experience applying data science-based solutions to real-world problems.
  • Expertise in scientific programming languages (e.g. R, Python), Posit Connect, R Shiny & reproducible research frameworks (e.g. Git, Docker).
  • Verbal and written English language fluency are a prerequisite.  
  • Intense curiosity about the biology of disease and eagerness to contribute to scientific and computational efforts.  

 
Nice to have 

  • Experience with biomarker data.
  • Prior research projects in pharma/biotech, university, or hospital environments.
