About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Engineering Manager for our Data Science team. The Data Science team at Verve researches and develops methods and tools to optimize our ad serving platform. We process data in the terabyte scale and billions of events per day. It’s crucial that the architecture provides low latency model decisions, A/B testing capabilities, stable models and an efficient cost footprint.

The job will involve constant feature development, performance tuning and platform stability assurance. The vision of our data science team is “Leverage AI driven optimization solutions and automation to maximize platform efficiency and profitability — driving revenue growth for our customers and stakeholders”. You own and provide the system that all business teams rely on to maximize revenue. Precision and high-quality results are essential in this role.

This position would be reporting to the VP, Data Intelligence Platforms. This is both a hands-on engineering and management position. So while you are proficient in the technology and can shape further future development you also excel and lead and manage a team by example.

What You Will Do

LEAD AND MANAGE

  • This role is 50-70% hands on, enhancing and supporting all data science team components.

  • Lead and manage a team of on-site and remote engineers

  • Do performance reviews

  • Define team charter, budgets, and hiring plan

  • Partner strongly with the product teams

DOMAIN

In this role your main focus would be on our Ad-Exchange Optimization projects

  • Win Price Prediction in various auctions setups - 1st price, 2nd price, Waterfall

  • Supply forecasting — Modeling time dependent supply availability

  • Demand forecasting — Modeling time dependent demand interest

  • Inventory valuation — Assessing true value of inventory in open market

  • Traffic Shaping — Time dependent supply and demand matching


Research and Development

Our Data Science role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Research and development of cutting edge Machine Learning systems, models, and schemes in many different areas of Adtech

  • Develop real-time algorithms for campaign and bidding optimization

  • Discover insights/patterns in exchange data

  • Design experiments, oversee A/B testing, evaluate the quality of derived assets and continuously monitor model performance

  • Create proof of concepts and data science prototypes

  • Search and select appropriate data sets

  • Perform statistical analysis and use results to improve models

  • Identify differences in data distribution that could affect model performance in real-world situations

  • Visualize data for deeper insights

  • Analyze the use cases of ML algorithms and ranking them by their success probability

  • Understanding when your findings can be applied to business decisions

  • Reducing business problems into optimization problems

  • Verifying data quality

COLLABORATIVE WORK
  • Work closely with product, engineering, and sales teams to drive the use of Data Science across Verve

  • Collaborate with our audience-focused Data Science team

  • Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers to engineer prototypes into solutions

  • Ability to articulate business requirements and bridge the gap between development teams and stakeholders.

  • Ability to present business and technical issues, ideas, and recommendations in verbal, written, and presentation formats using storytelling and logical arguments.

  • Collaborate with teams across the globe in different time zones

  • Extend successful solutions and optimization to sister companies in Verve

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand project functional requirements and objectives from a data processing perspective

Requirements

What You Will Bring

    • 3+ years of experience leading and managing a team of highly productive engineers.

    • Proven experience in owning the products and driving them to the end, all the way from gathering requirements, development, testing, and deployment to ensuring high availability post-deployment.

    • 3+ years experience working as a Data Scientist/Machine Learning engineer in industry (preferably in advertising) is a must

    • A postgraduate degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g. applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, physics, operations research, economics, behavioral sciences)

    • Fluent in statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning,

    • Proficient in Python, SQL, PySpark, TensorFlow, Sklearn,

    • Cloud platforms: preferably GCP

    • Enthusiasm for solving interesting problems,

    • Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented and constantly changing environment.

    Previous experience in

    - Auction optimization

    - Highly imbalanced classification problems

    - Game theory

    - Time series forecasting

    - State-space modeling

    - Function-Approximation Algorithms
