Job Description

The Data Science team is a key part of the decision management engine at Visa. This is a high-performing team of data scientists, data analysts, statisticians, and business analysts from a variety of countries – serving major Financial Institutions and North America. The team works with large data sets using quantitative techniques and builds complex statistical models that learn from big data, working across multiple teams and functions to develop cutting edge, creative and advanced analytic solutions and processes.  Our focus lies on building creative solutions that have an immediate impact on the business of our highly analytical partners. To support our rapidly growing group, we are looking for Data Science Interns who are passionate about the opportunity to use Visa’s rich data to address and deliver significant results to complex problems! 

As a Data Science Intern, you will be responsible for developing Data Analytics solutions to solve business problems. Here, you will be required to work with large data sets using quantitative techniques and build complex statistical models that learn from big data. We have a highly collaborative process, and you are required to work across multiple teams and functions for developing cutting edge, creative and advanced analytic solutions and processes.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Students pursuing a master's degree in computer science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related STEM/quantitative field. with a graduation date in December 2025 or later.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong communications skills, specifically, the absence of repeated grammatical or typographical errors, clear and concise written and spoken

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in one or more database tools, such as Hadoop/HIVE/SQL, and programming language such as Python/Pyspark.
  • Experience in delivering analytics solutions using any Machine Learning framework.
  • Experience with visualization and reporting tools, such as advanced user of PPT, Power BI, Tableau, open-source tool, or similar.
  • Exhibits intellectual curiosity and strives to continually learn.
  • Previous exposure to financial services, credit cards or merchant analytics is a plus, but not required

Additional Information

Internship Duration: 12 weeks starting May 2025

Work Authorization: Permanent work authorization to work in the Canada is a precondition of employment for this position. Visa will not sponsor applicants for work visas in connection with this position. 

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week.

This is a hybrid position: Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 0% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
