ManTech is seeking a highly skilled Artificial Intelligence Engineer with a strong focus on Large Language Models (LLM’s) to help support our current IWTSD contract out of Alexandria, VA. The successful candidate will be joining a diverse team at an industry-leading organization known for prioritizing employee development and offering opportunities for advancement.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work on cutting-edge projects, contribute to the advancement of AI capabilities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and data-driven solutions.
- Development and Fine-tuning of LLM’s:
- Design, develop, and fine-tune large-scale language models to meet specific business objectives.
- Implement state-of-the-art techniques in natural language processing (NLP) and understanding to enhance model performance.
- Experiment with model architectures and training strategies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Data Preparation and Management:
- Curate and preprocess large text corpora for training and fine-tuning LLMs.
- Ensure data quality and relevance to optimize model outcomes.
- Manage data annotation processes when necessary.
- Model Evaluation and Validation:
- Evaluate model performance using appropriate NLP metrics (e.g., perplexity, BLEU scores, ROUGE).
- Conduct rigorous testing to ensure models are robust, generalize well, and meet ethical standards.
- Perform error analysis to identify areas for improvement.
- Deployment and Integration:
- Deploy LLMs into production environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate models into applications, APIs, or services.
- Optimize models for real-time inference and performance constraints
- Research and Innovation:
- Stay updated on the latest research and developments in LLMs and NLP.
- Experiment with new methodologies and contribute to internal knowledge bases
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional teams
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related field and at least 5 years of related AI experience.
- At least 2 years of experience focused on large language models.
- Proven track record of working with transformer-based architectures and NLP tasks.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python
- AI experience to include frameworks and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face Transformers
- Knowledge of data preprocessing techniques for text data, including tokenization, stemming, and lemmatization
- Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with prompt engineering and fine-tuning pre-trained models for specific tasks.
- Knowledge of conversational AI and experience building chatbots or virtual assistants.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and deploying AI models as services.
- Publications or contributions to the AI/NLP research community.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality work

Physical Requirements:
The projected compensation range for this position is $99,200-$164,600. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories. In addition, ManTech invests in it’s employees beyond just compensation.
