Snapshot

We're looking for someone with a proven track record of handling real-world, messy data and solving problems creatively. Diverse industry experience is a plus. We value practical application of analytical skills over purely theoretical knowledge. You will have experience working in a product environment and will have experience working with evaluation data or similar.

About Us

Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

The Role

The AI Platform team at Google DeepMind is seeking a highly motivated Analytics Engineer to build and maintain the data platform that powers our human data collection for Gemini. This is a hands-on role where you'll transform raw data into actionable insights, directly impacting how we build and improve Gemini. You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, QA, and business stakeholders, focusing on robust data engineering and delivering clear, impactful analysis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build & Maintain the Data Foundation: Design, build, and maintain the data platform and pipelines for human data collection. This includes data storage, retrieval, transformation (including processing structured product logs), and reporting on operational metrics and process efficiency. You'll work with software engineers to integrate this platform seamlessly, and will have input into tool selection, schema definition, and implementing data quality checks.
  • Define & Track Key Metrics: Develop and monitor key performance indicators to track the effectiveness and efficiency of our data collection processes. You'll create dashboards and reports to keep everyone informed.
  • Unlock Insights: Proactively identify key product and business questions related to data collection operations, then use data analysis to answer them. You'll uncover hidden patterns and opportunities to improve our data collection processes.
  • Collaborate & Communicate: Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and translate them into data-driven solutions that optimize data collection.
  • Solve Real-World Problems: Tackle complex analytical challenges using your expertise in SQL (BigQuery/StandardSQL), Python, and related tools from the PyData stack (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, NumPy, Jupyter). You'll be comfortable working with imperfect data and finding creative solutions.

About You

In order to set you up for success as an Analytics Engineer at Google DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data warehousing, or a related data science role. Practical experience is key.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (especially BigQuery) and Python.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling and ETL processes.
  • Experience or interest in data collection for evaluation.

In addition, the following could be an advantage:

  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI).
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (especially Google Cloud Platform).
  • Experience with data warehousing tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with data governance principles.
  • Experience with statistical modeling.
  • Experience or interest in natural language processing (NLP).
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with collaborative development tools.
