Meta Reality Labs Research (RL Research) brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers with the shared goal of developing AR and VR across the spectrum. The Surreal Vision group at RL Research is seeking exceptional research scientists to solve the next generation of research challenges on the path to building future machine perception enabled technologies. The aim of this role is to research and develop advanced computer vision models, algorithms and SW systems for egocentric machine perception. To understand and infer the dynamic world around us and how we are interacting with it; with a focus on fundamental vision models, 3D reconstruction and understanding, as well as longitudinal object and human state tracking.

AI Research Scientist, ML and 3D Computer Vision Responsibilities

  • Leading and participating in cutting edge research for ML-based 3D reconstruction and understanding, 2D and 3D object tracking, and object classification / re-identification.
  • Collaborate with team members throughout the lifetime of a project, from early research through prototyping. Mentor peers.
  • Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences.
  • Working with product partners to deploy research into Meta's products.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Industry research / postdoctoral experience after completing PhD in the field of computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning or a related field
  • Experience with 2D and 3D object tracking, 3D reconstruction and object classification / re-identification.
  • 5+ years experience with a mastery of modern features in C++ or Python. Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading conferences (e.g., SIGGRAPH, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML) or journals (e.g., PAMI, IJCV, JMLR, ToG)
  • Experience designing and developing computer vision, computer graphics, or machine learning algorithms in C++
  • Experience with prototyping algorithms in Python
  • Demonstrated software engineer and ML development experience via previous internships, work experiences, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
  • Mathematical background and understanding of numerical optimization, linear algebra, probabilistic estimation and 3D geometry
