In this role, you will work closely with the members of the Grid Modernization team on projects using smart grid technology to support the integration of renewable energy resources. You’ll be helping to improve grid reliability, resilience, and renewable energy goals. Primary duties include obtaining, cleaning, and reporting on data recorded by smart grid devices and optimization results.

Job Description
The Grid Modernization team at Eversource is seeking candidates for a Student Intern in Data Science. In this role, you will work closely with members of the Grid Modernization team on the implementation of a Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) and its Electric Sector Grid Modernization Plan. You’ll be supporting real efforts to improve grid reliability, resilience, and effectively integrate renewable energy resources into power system operations. Primary duties include obtaining, cleaning, and reporting on data recorded in DERMS. The intern may also assess DERMS optimization models seeking to validate and explain results.

Ideal candidates will be entering or in their 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate study, or graduate study, pursuing a degree/masters in Operations Research, Electrical Engineering, or Data Science. Consideration will also be given to students in Computer Science or Mathematics who have exposure to analytics, statistical modeling, or operations research coursework.

The Data Science Intern will report to the Manager, Grid Modernization Technology who is responsible for overseeing several large-scale grid modernization projects central to Eversource’s ESMP. You will work closely with the Lead Engineer and the teams responsible for each of these projects.

⦁    Support projects across multiple teams

⦁    Conduct ad-hoc analyses to answer questions supporting team projects

⦁    Own longer-term analyses and reports designed to assess grid enhancement projects

⦁    Clearly document and explain analyses
⦁    Learn the domain and understand capabilities and technologies
⦁    Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions

Education and Experience
⦁    Currently matriculated in college, working toward a bachelor’s or masters degree in Operations Research, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Business/Data Analytics, or Mathematics

⦁    Proficiency in MS-Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

⦁    Experience with R/RStudio or Python for data analysis, data visualization, and modeling

   Knowledge of optimization problems or experience with MatLab, CPLEX etc.
