The Yale Center for Brain and Mind Health (CBMH) seeks to hire new faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level with a research focus in artificial intelligence that is applied to brain and mind science. The CBMH’s broad mission is to apply clinical and translational neuroscience to directly improve the quality of life for individuals with conditions affecting the mind and brain. We are particularly interested in candidates who develop and apply AI methodologies within the context of clinically relevant neuroscience problems. Candidates may integrate approaches such as natural language processing, machine learning, computer vision, expert systems, large language models, and other methods. Promising applicants may work in any one area of clinically relevant application (e.g., genetics, brain imaging, neurodegeneration, development) or across multiple areas. They will be motivated toward generating impactful work that can improve human health, in the context of a team science approach.
Successful candidates will be embedded in the richly collaborative CBMH environment that supports intellectual creativity and in the Department of Biomedical Informatics & Data Science (BIDS). The CBMH is a new interdepartmental Center at the Yale School of Medicine that collaborates with clinical and basic science departments across the University to foster innovative work in the neurosciences. The unique design of the CBMH leadership, five individuals from different departments, with diverse backgrounds and interests, embodies a core CBMH principle: creating a scientific community where the sum is greater than each individual part. The CBMH realizes that the full potential of research lies in the power that diverse perspectives bring to the field. We foster an environment where individuals of any race, gender, identity, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, and geographical background feel supported and empowered to push forward the frontiers of clinically relevant neuroscience research based on the principles of inclusivity, equity, and belonging. We strongly encourage applicants from historically marginalized backgrounds to apply.
Emphasis will be placed on recruiting applicants that are enthusiastic about contributing to the foundation of the CBMH’s dynamic, growing community and are eager to apply neuroscience research to improve patient care. Yale is home to a vibrant neuroscience community, which includes leading Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, and the Child Study Center. CBMH also integrates nationally recognized leadership in AI from the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science as well as the AI core of the Wu-Tsai Institute. The CBMH collaborates across these entities and integrates basic and patient-oriented research across a dynamic range of investigators. Faculty are expected to develop a productive and innovative research program, be outstanding scholars with a track record of collaborative, multidisciplinary research and scholarly productivity, demonstrate a commitment to health-related outcomes, and evidence excellence in teaching and mentorship. Faculty will be appointed in BIDS. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
This call is open with respect to the specific condition(s) or transdiagnostic health-related construct(s) addressed. Clinician-scientists and basic scientists engaged in clinical or translational work are welcome to apply. Eligible applicants must have an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree at the time of hire.
Please send a cover letter, research statement, and a curriculum vitae, and arrange for three letters of recommendation, which we will request from finalists.
· Cover letter: Indicate your desired level of appointment and describe how your work fits with the goals and mission of CBMH. Please also describe your path traveled noting any obstacles you have overcome and how you might strive to ease them for others in the future.
· Research statement (4-pages max including optional figures and references): Please use up to two pages to describe your most significant discoveries and accomplishments to date, and up to two pages to focus on the goals of your future research program, including how your work will nurture collaboration at CBMH. Describe any past, current or planned effort/activities to foster inclusion in your lab, institution or field, and how you might promote outreach and/or foster an equitable and inclusive environment at Yale.
· Curriculum Vitae: Include links to publications or website.
All application materials should be submitted electronically to: http://apply.interfolio.com/157186. Any questions regarding the application process may be addressed to marcia.schwartz@yale.edu. Applications will be reviewed as they are received until the position is filled.
