We have a growing triple digit fleet deployed in paid commercial use within vineyards, nurseries, berries, and beyond, and demand for our product is accelerating, so we are growing our team. We are seeking a Vice President of Hardware to serve in a key role leading our hardware team as we scale the production of our robots. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team of engineers and successfully manufacturing production-level hardware at scale including Mechanical and Electrical systems. The VP of Hardware will work closely with and report to our Chief Technology Officer.
Responsibilities
Lead a high growth multi-functional engineering team to develop and scale hardware into the market
Drive the development of category-defining autonomous robots, focusing on transitioning them to production of 1000s
Plan and define comprehensive roadmaps that proactively anticipate and address potential challenges in hardware development and deployment
Conduct thorough benchmarking analysis of Burro Hardware against industry competitors. Lead the design and continuous improvement process to maintain a competitive edge
Work with our manufacturing team to identify and address the root causes of hardware failures. Implement proactive strategies to enhance quality control and ensure reliability and durability in hardware components
Utilize a data-centric approach to inform hardware development decisions. Analyze performance data to drive actionable insights, leading to continuous improvement in hardware design and functionality
Requirements
Bachelors or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field; MBA or management related degree a plus
8+ years of experience developing rugged outdoor machinery in agriculture, construction, or similar industries
Experience developing complex products that fuse mechanical, electrical and software into production of 1000+ units/year
Experience managing a team of 6+ engineers
Entrepreneurial mindset and a proven track record of bringing products to market
Excellent leadership and communication skills
Experience with robotics, automation systems or electrical vehicles is strongly preferred
